Well, Christmas cleaning has been difficult
« on: December 29, 2012, 08:28:45 am »
Back on 22 Dec I had £1800-worth of worth to do between Christmas and the 31st. So far i've done just £472 of it because of the appalling weather, not for the lack of trying.

With just 2 days to go I might get a few done today, but here in Pembrokeshire the weather is looking bad today, and not good for Monday.

I'm trying to do the 8 weeklys and quarterlys now rather than the 4 weeklys: if the 4 weeklys drop off the end of Dec they'll roll into Jan where they will have 2 cleans then (rather than in Dec) as long as they are done on Wed or Thurs (the 2nd and 3rd) but even given this I didn't finish all work on the 22nd and couldn't work at all on the 24th. These are already rolled to this week, which has been appalling too.

On the face of it i'm going to lose £700 this month. Now the reason for the post...

At least we've not been flooded like the poor sods where rivers have burst their banks. What about the guys on here who have rounds in flood affected areas... how the hell are you managing?

So, while sitting here bemoaning the weather i'm also sending all of you best wishes for 2013 from Pembs, especially to those really suffering.

Fingers crossed its a better year for all of us.

hi carl i just sacked off all work until the 2nd jan.any work that didnt get done for the 21st dec has been delayed.it has been a bit frustrating.

xmas tips down by £100-£150

equipment problems and delays in delivery of new stuff etc

plus really heavy rain which is impossible to work in! :( :(

debt list is also too big at present

on the plus side ive been painting and fitting out my girlfriends new shop.she has been working 12-13 hours a day nearly every day for 4 weeks now with just a few days off over xmas.its an exciting time for her and im glad to help out.

luckily for me ive had an emergency fund to dip into to help over xmas and the holidays.

2012 has been a good year earnings wise despite the poor weather so im not complaining too much!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

best wishes to you all for a successful new year

I'm down about £450 too. I had hoped to get some done before the new year but I'm now resigned to forgeting about the work lost and concentrating on going back on Jan 2nd!

Similar figures here too. Will go out Monday though.

You expected to get £1800 of work done in December in Wales over a 6 day period with a weekend stuck in the middle?

You need to be more realistic.

I've tried working over the christmas period, but it's been a nightmare - bad weather etc...

At the moment my motivation is at about 25% - I need to buck my ideas up for 2nd Jan!  ;)

No I don't. I can do this in October and November when the stats show my part of Wales is wettest. I've done it in the past and i'll do it again. Unfortunately, as is evidenced by the other replies to this thread, many are suffering from the effects of the weather.

I'm right down on takings this Christmas and I've still jobs to be done from the beginning of December. For the year, I'm down 22% but with the same expenses.

The weather here, as with most places, has been abysmal. Brighton usually has a very very low rainfall but not this year and especially not this month.

I'm starting to find this constant gloomy, grey and dull weather along with the seemingly constant rain and strong winds quite depressing.
Yesterday it was dull, gloomy, grey with constant rain and strong winds and the icing on the cake, thick fog as well.

Still, as the op who started this thread mentioned, at least there's no flooding around here.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

We're all affected by it. Just depends whether you take that on board and adjust your expectations accordingly.

I've learnt from past years that the best way to enjoy Christmas is to prepare well in advance for it.  Get the presents purchased early, put money aside for the food and bills, and take the time off to relax and chill.  Make sure your tax return is done well in advance; I've spoilt a Christmas for myself by thinking, "Bugger, I've my tax return to do!" all the way through it.  Make sure you have the money for the tax man too.

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

my tax return was in about 4 months ago, whether they get the money on time is a different thing all together  :o
