Gold,

Good points, especially with the Morrisons supermarket example.

Up north I don't know who J V Price Ltd is TBH.

If a company like this want to become a UK household name, then they need to employ the services of a large marketing organisation. The services of the local van sign writer are not good enough for this.

We have a local sign writer for van decals. Tell him what you want and he is ok. But he hasn't a clue when it comes to lettering, its too small and not bold enough to be seen clearly - there isn't any impact with anything he does, and that's the most important when it comes to advertising on the side/back of a van. It's your advertising board.

The signage on Price's new vans need to be their advertising board. My eye's are drawn to the name price and my brain is locked into that. The van would have passed and I wouldn't have seen the services they offer underneath.

But then again, I'm not their target market and it shouldn't matter to them if I know who they are or not. But it does matter that they are well known in their market area.

I think they look great mate,

Off subject,

I have handed out endless fines in stoke on trent for people urinating in the street,

I do actively encourage it in other area's though, especially in nottingham.

I don't want to have my company as a household name I want it to be know to companies that require the services we offer.

We don't clean houses only commercial and large commercial at that, the vans are a very small part of our marketing stratergy, most of my customers would not place work through us from seing the van on the M1.

The thread was more based around the look of the van than the markerting protential

I think you might be in the wrong game, if I need a marketing manager in the near future with a knowledge of window cleaning, I think I might have found the man

Hi

Nothing fella I just think he was trying to keep the logo,s in line with the style of the van, all our vans (20+) have the logo in my profile.

I don't like to spend a lot on the sign writing as I don't think it brings in a lot of business but I do like them all branded.

In the early days of wraps I had a van done and when the girls in the office took sales enquiries and asked how did you hear about us never from the vans!!

That said a lot come from our lorries guess its the fact of them working on buildings next door or the wow factor.

Guess I have a dream to be the Stobart of window cleaning!

Hey All

I have just got the ops managers at the price group new vans we managed to get 5 of the limited edition (edition 30) caddy vans

Now want to get them branded up what do you think to this layout from the signwriters

Fundamentally you've done a brilliant job of sticking 'price' on your van. Other than that..not much!
"Thank you for calling: if you have a 1st floor flat, mid terraced house, lots of dogs, no parking, no side access, or no sense of humour, please press hold!
For all other enquiries, please press1"

MR Wright was not interested but Mr Half is in ha ha

Hey

I'm not always right and each to there own I put things on here to get feedback from a range of people, constructive criticism I will take from anyone as it has helpped me get to where I am, on the flip side all the teachers that told me I would end up as a window cleaner also got me to where I am ha ha!!!

Great attitude.  Some build their businesses and let their egos take over.  Others retain some genuine humility and know where they came from.  Very refreshing IMHO.  All opinions have some value.
Now I'm going to have to use some imagination here as I've always been a sole trader.  I was told that it's best to have "what you do" prominent.  Name a bit less prominent.  Easy to remember contact details easily visible too.  However, that's for a sole trader who will probably receive enquiries as he goes around.  As a larger company, I'm assuming that most of your work comes from responses to ads and by telesales/other marketing - in which case the brand name probably becomes more important than the other stuff.  Also, you are fortunate to have a name that can be marketed reasonably well (have you ever considered offering a small percentage of your business to a Mr Wright  ;D ) ?
IMHO there's nothing wrong with keeping it simple if you aren't using your van as an ad for contact to be made.
