leading on from my hose pole, here is what Ive got
« on: December 12, 2012, 11:52:14 pm »
ok work with me here guys.

As we have gone hot ive been on a quest to find the best hoses for our reels and for the boiler to the reel.

Thermobore is really the only thing on the market and doesnt do it for me as its 6mm and we prefere the higher flow and thickness of 8mm (note thermobore is rated up to 80C)

So I started looking online for something else something better and came accross an industrial hose supplier who has supplied the window cleaning industry before.

The product I found is called Tricoflex thermosoft and is a brand new (a month or so) state of the art thermal hose. it has 5 layers and is rated to 100c! and has a thicker harder whereing side wall. Look it up it seems very very impressive.

So I called him up and here is the problem, tricoflex dont make it in 6 or 8mm only larger. they do a special order for 8mm but only in a length (to him( of 3000m, so 30 lengths of 100m in our terms. So it will be 8mmID 15mm OD that will be very tough indeed! it will be bright orange in colour, 5 layers and made from thermaly resistant materials. This will also benefit cold users and it will be tougher than anything else on the market and its thermal properties will work both ways and may help resist freezing better than others.

So the supplier told me that if I could help get 20 lengths of 100m as good as sold with you guys then he would go ahead and order 30 lengths. I want 4 lenght so that leaves 16 to go.

The price will be £112 per 100m, I know thats more expensive than others but it promises to be much much better.

So google Tricoflex thermosoft and see what you can learn.

It is also sold in 1/2 ID (normal garden hose size) which im very keen to use from the boiler to the reels as this gets very hot. This is only availiable in 25m lengths and is about £125 I am willing to buy this and sell some of it on to you guys after ive cut a few meters for us.

Note im not supply this myself execpt a little of the 1/2inch and im not making any money. I just want the hose myself and im trying to help the supply achieve enough interest to justify ordering 30 lengths as its customer made to order in that size.

Come on guys lets see some interest, our hoses are knackered and I really want these!

I think you would struggle to get 100m of 15mm OD on a standard reel. That is a considerable size OD & what sounds like the only downside to the hose.

No thats only 1-2mm thicker and is one of the reasons im up for it as it wil be much tougher

the thicker wall also helps insulate. If it retains heat better then less gas or fuel will be used and in the summer it will be hotter at the brush. In the winter the reel will retain heat better bettween jobs when driving

It's 3mm thicker OD than my 8mm minibore. I know it sounds minuscule, but I went from 11mm to 12mm OD & the difference was VERY apparent.

Have you weighed up the extra weight, bulk & possible restriction of this hose over current offerings?

Weight really shouldnt be an issue for us MEN on here.

gardiners 8mm has a 13mm OD and thermobore is 12mm OD

To be honest how often is all the hose off the real? not very for us, as long as a nice neat job is done when first putting it on it will fit.

That would depend on whether your reel is fixed or not. I lift mine in & out for every job!

so do we.!!!

I dont know if thats the one, its called thermosoft. That may be the one as I see it has 5 layers but it doesnt say the ID. It a brand new product and isnt made with an ID of 8mm yet. Unless we get the interest that is. Google it.

A concern for me would be how soft it would be in the winter when theres only luke warm water passing through it, would it be like a steel cable ??
I still dont understand why 8mm hose has a higher flow rate, i use Thermobore and the water flies out ??

Interesting, but...................... hose from boiler to hosereel is already available and cheap - radiator hose.
Gardiners thermobore is already proven to be good enough for hot water use and after a few weeks use the id gets pretty close to 8mm anyway. Good bit of research though.
I don't think I've ever had the hose freeze up with hot water in it yet. Normally the jets go first followed by the small diameter hose that connects to them.

+1 (although I have used 8mm)
I think 8mm is too heavy when 6mm does the same imo.
I know your going to say man up is only 8mm but if thats your line of thought should we also go back to ali poles as they last longer with less wear issues or use the Vikan sill brush again?

I just cant see how you get a greater flow as the water goes into a pole hose with a 5mm dia then through jets with a 2mm dia

No the reel is bolted down in the van, 8mm is just heavier to throw about and reel in, not by much but 6mm is notably ligher.
