My pump was left in van overnight last night and was bloody cold. While working i noticed the pressure went sky high but also the pressure switch wast kicking in to turn off pump. It lasted like this half the day when all stoped working, so i went to pump which was boiling hot and stunk of burning metal. What would have caused me to fry my pump. I have been using it over 2 years as just a pump with no flow valve or controller etc off of van battery. Would the cold have damaged it or could it be just where i have been using it on full power over last few years??
I went ashbys in dartford and got a new 1 and still managed to get a full day in thank god. Just wierd it was working fine yesturday but blew up today.
Anybody else had same problem?.

Maybe sucked some ice in it and the pump still going full bore?

Pump was more like a pressure washer today before it died. Normally only shoots out 2-3 meters with good pressure for window cleaning i was hitting 10 meters+

it sure was showing off eating all my lovely pure moneymaking water..you was right what you said on the phone that it wouldnt last much longer(you jinx). about half hour after i said it was working fine again to you it blew up.

Ice in the night might have damaged the pressure switch, and then you continued using it for the rest of the day with the pump having no way to detect over pressure and pumping way beyond its limits until it expired.  2 Years isn't that bad though.

Yea 2 years constant use so ii cant moan. Have learnt a lesson to keep all equipment at a bareable temp to avoid serious probs in the future so have reel n pumpbox in tonight but the poor merlin will be left on all night freezing its balls off puring water for the rest of the week.
