Shurflo pump plastic barb connectors
« on: December 09, 2012, 07:51:41 pm »
Can you use anything else instead of these as they always leak on the pressure side for some reason. I have swooped the angled ones for straight ones but still it leaks. Either that or I am doing something wrong. Thanks.

I use the normal male tap fittings like the ones from B+Q with the female hoselock fittings on the hose either side of the pump.

They don't leak if you tighten them a little more, but don't overtighten. They have a wingnut that has two lugs to help you tighten it by hand. I then put a spanner on it and give it an extra tighten. Never had to use ptfe tape.

These barbs have a tappered fitting which mates in with the pump. It may help if you put the barb in hot water the soften the plastic a bit, but be careful and don't overtighten and damage the thread.

Yeah I have used ptfe on round the male pump connectors. They are done up hand tight as tight as possible. Maybe I will try nipping it up with a spanner.

James, nipping is the right word -  ;D

I couldn't think of the right word when replying. I personally would remove the ptfe tape. The seal is on the connector face and nothing to do with the threads.
