Marey 8l water heater split.
« on: December 09, 2012, 05:02:17 pm »
Be AWARE.  My Marey l8 gas boiler split on Friday. One needs to drain at the end of the day by removing the inlet hose at the end of the day.If the water is under pressure and locked with a tap at  the hose head the water will frees expand and split the boiler tank. Please I am not wanting to debate the pro`S AND CONS OF GAS HEATING. But feel as its new field to most of us all. What you do with this knowledge is up to you.I hope this will save some one money.  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Dave: water freezing at 0 degrees never measured it.Well my tank did not freeze and my hoses were not frozen but the heater froze due to been lower The heater due to been steel its a better conductor of cold and next to the skin of the van. Drain is the only way or heat the van, I have never had anything freeze in my area. But last thursday was ffffffshhhhhhh rrrrrr cold. Its bust at 12 o clock is the morning while I had a lunch break.

draining water from system/pumps/heaters/ no matter what the make should be standard practice if your
not heating your vehicle overnight

I don`t see the brand as a problem if it freezes it can be any brand. AS a matter of fact i am buying the same one again as it a good water heater, I messed  up no excuses the van got cold and it was very cold day.I should of let the pressure out of the hose as I  always do if I tell you the brand no one will buy them and to be honest any  water heater can freeze . So switch of pump and leave the hose bleed out all the water. So there is not pressure in the hose. My system has gas brass hose fitting on to the inlet hose which I will unclip remove to let the water drain so I can go and have lunch and know when I get back it will still work. We need to develop good practices to save unnecessary cost.I will be fitting a three way split in the hose  to the reel  into the tank as someone said last week.      This will help my system and your system being different might need a different solution,   ??? ???     OR           Maybe I should let you chaps find out for yourselves. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The water pressure into the water heater will not burst a tanks, but when frozen water expands in all directions and that is were the shiiiii hits the fan.

Dave you have got it in ONE, you win the prize.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D A weekend in Syria take your own gun with. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The L5's have a drain value that you are to use that's designed so you can drain the system so it don't freeze,

When I open this heater up it did not freeze but had a flaw in a brass valve  you could clearly see ,which split under the water pressure.

They aren't designed for 100psi pressure being pumped through them.
(think I mentioned this before  ;))

Only if you don't drain them off properly, user error! Lol
