« on: December 07, 2012, 07:39:32 am »
Does anyone suffer from shoulder pain due to work?

I always get some discomfort in my shoulders, But last monday I fell back, not awkardly, and put my arms back to steady myself. and since then my left shoulder is even worse. To the point of waking me in the night.

Anyone clued up on this RSI thing? bit worrying cos its really affecting my work now  :(

ive noticed that since ive been using a 25ft SLX with extreme brush and carbon gooseneck and now work without the aqua-daptor i get very little strain on shoulders.

i have pretty big shoulders anyway.i do get a bit of strain if im using my 40ft supermax though, but it only gets used a few times a month.

i have a full fascia clean/soffit/outside gutter clean to do next week in with all my normal maintenance window cleaning.i find these can strain my shoulders a bit!!even with my SLX.

conny roof cleans also are a bit of a shoulder strainer!!

what poles do you use mick?

i reckon for keeping strain to a minimum we should all be investing in EXTREME poles.

i play drums as well so i need to keep shoulders in good shape!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

i would defo go to the doctors mick and get it checked out.it could be a rota cuff injury.you could damage it even further if you carry on poling without sufficient rest.

best wishes

i use CLX poles, so no worries there, but i have just got a guttervac with the aly poles, so need to go lighter with them.

Im off to the docs this afternoon, i think i have probably torn a muscle or something, so a few days off over xmas should help!!!

Or it could be old age...lol. 49 in Feb, I need to remind myself at times im not 29  ::)

the trouble with most if the little pains we get is that if you could just rest it for a week or two itd be fine but because we need to use it every day it has the risk of getting a lot worse.
im learning the hard way that prevention is a hell of a lot easier than cure.  use extreme poles, do regular stretching, starting going to pilates etc.  really really important to look after your body in this job.

Hell yeah! I'd never even given RSI a thought until one of the tutors mentioned it on the C&G course. I think I laughed at the time but it's no joke. I started getting tennis elbow using WFP, it's clearing up now I've forced myself to to alternate my stance more and use the pole cack handed. :'(

I went to the doctor with a sore shoulder/upper arm.I now go to physio through NHS once a month and am meant to do exercises every day with a rubber band they gave me.I now use an Extreme 18' which helps a bit,and as Duncan says try to alternate the way you hold the pole with the high hand,(sometimes your palm should face you and sometimes the knuckle)

Well, the doctor has referred me as she thinks ive torn my rotator cuff. Got to have an x ray and on the 27th Dec off to the specialist, and shes 95% sure ill be referred to a surgeon  :(

She said it takes 1 month plus recovery, which is pretty worrying re work!

sooner or later the pain will get us all depending on are age, thats what happens with physical jobs, the older you get the less you earn, number one reason why we should all keep prices as high as possible because we get older we earn less a office worker gets older and earns more.

Not sure if it'll be RSI or just a strain that doesn't heal. As you're always working the same muscles it may never get the chance.
A lad I know works @80ft a lot (more than me, anyway) and he used to have a sports massage once a month through the company.
Used to do him the world of good.
