Parking in busy areas & other marketing
« on: December 02, 2012, 09:09:55 am »
Just sat drinking a coffee and surfing the web  in my local coffee shop as I look out the window there  is an 'ovenU' van parked opposite ( they clean ovens). It is here every Sunday in exactly the same place from 8am to late  evening. When I say every Sunday I mean I have seen it every time I come into town for the last 3yrs

It has a card dispenser on the side full off postcards.

Anyone tried this method of marketing? It must work or the wouldn't have been doing it for so long.

Plus to widen the topic a bit, anyone else got an idea for marketing in the upcoming slow season?

For the past 4-5 years there have been tiny Diahatsu Midget vans fitted with A boards parking around the area I live in, some at intersections others on main roads or near ASDAS, TESCOS, etc.

I remember these being discussed about a year ago, and people saying that they were effective. Can't remember who it was using them, though!

I had one on the one side and it was pretty good.
This was a business card holder though.
Was always thinking of excuses to park in Tesco,
the one round here is very busy as it's one of the
bigger ones.
Unfortunately when I changed vehicles I took the
card holder itself off but forgot the backing plate it
slots into.
Have got the web address I bought it from somewhere
will post it.
£15 apiece I think they were.

I always leave my van parked strategically, on the first bay so people can read back or side etc !! If I have to pop to a shopping area, I will park up near a Waitrose or Marks & Spencer, rather than Lidl or Aldi ........ they tend to pay more for a weekely/daily shop.
The one place that has always produced results, on the business card holders front, is the local gym/health club ........ ladies leaving excercise classes, normally in a group so if one takes a card, they all do !!

There are a few fully sign written cars parked up around here, with 3 rooms for £49 etc ........ sure they must work but only for certain people, as I have worked diagonally/opposite one of them twice recently  ;)

Picking the kids up from school in the van is another great idea, not so great if you haven't though.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

I went for a cup of coffee today, the same place ive been going for years. The building opposite has had a massive sign over it for about 7 years now, it says Sainsburys and loads of people seem to go there ::)
Boring..........

I parked my van at meadowhall right where everyone could see it right in their busiest car park never had a call from it I'm guessing that people are so focused on where and what they are shopping for that carpet cleaning isn't at the fore front of their minds may be in a local car park in a market town like Beverley could be different as people are coming into town to socialise???

I drink my coffee at home, using my own mug.

And by coffee, I mean meths. By mug, I mean brown paper bag. And by home, I mean a shop doorway.

Never had a single call yet.

My mate had a Chipsaway franchise and spent his weekends in Morrisons car parks with his gazebo up handing leaflets out, doing demos on a car bonnet brought in lots of work but whole weekend was spent there
