Anyone tried izettle card payments via iPhone?
« on: December 01, 2012, 10:41:59 pm »
I've just ordered one myself, 2.5% on most cards, no contract, no minimum spend. Looks like izettle are leading the mobile payments race, even though they have had issues with visa pulling out, they are all back on board and orange are selling the reader in all stores for £20.

Works on Android too

Did my first transaction this week; 3GS.  In my account next day, cost me 25p iirc.

Helps if they have a phone on them as they can confirm payment on the spot by text.

Lets you add notes and photo of house if required.

Best if all and I don't think they mention it on their site, it accepts VISA now.

Hi Andy,

Do you mean we can send a text instead of email to confirm payment?
Was the transaction fast? (Obviously signal dependant)
Do izettle just deduct the % charge from the payment or do you pay daily/weekly etc?
Was customer happy with the method? (I think the 'sign only no pin' should solve many fears with security).

Cheers

With Visa it can only be done by entering long number etc. also enter their mobile number and a text is sent to their phone. There's a link in the text message that they click, opens the link in their browser where they confirm the payment and the app confirms the transaction there and then.

I got the bit wrong about money going into your bank account, it's actually 7 days, which although not ideal, it is no real hardship all things considered IMO.

2.75 % cost ie a £10 payment costs 27.5 pence.

The option/function where your customer 'signs' to confirm is not for Visa, Visa is text or email confirmation.  That's why I suggested they have a data enabled phone, does it there and then.

Also, they sent me a free card reader. Just turned up in the post, not been charged for it.

I too the personal account option. Just seemed simpler although there are lower limits on deposits I think. No real reason I just thought that sounded more conducive with being a sole trader and I don't (officially) have a 'business' bank account.

Far too early to have a comprehensive opinion but on the face of it it promises to be a godsend.

My customer thought it was very professional.  God knows what he thought previously then? ;-)

Cheers Andy, I went and had a look at some more info on the visa payments today and it seems ok and like you say better if the customer has a smartphone but sounds like chip and pin will come next once they've sorted the skimming side of it. I can't wait to get started and do away with some of the cheques and online hassle.
