I leave my battery charger permanently wired up to the battery - and run an extension lead to the van to charge it when my split charger hasn't done enough miles to charge.

I think you're in a flat so a split charger might be better for you, if you do enough mileage.

It's a pain to keep disconnecting the battery and lugging it indoors though

hi dave i dont have to keep lugging it indoors although i am bringing it in on freezing nights like tonight!what i will do normally is just run an extension lead out to the van and i can charge it overnight with van doors locked .thats what i used to do with the freedom trolley.

sorry max the scrap metal guys came round and took the bare trolley this afternoon about an hour after stripping it bare.mine was the 50L version.a big heavy clumsy thing!!im glad to see the back of it to be honest!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi Dazmond first of all make sure you have got a Lesuire battery charger as that is vitally important .

At the moment due to my battery been over 1 year old and the cold weather i am charging mine once a week Usually on a weekend if i remember .

I just fetch the whole thing in the house in summer and winter .

Great bit of kit no complaints at all .Mike

Dazmond you need a intelligent charger.
Lead acid batteries last longer if they are kept charged . I would charge every other day and during cold spells charge it daily if not to much hassle
Spit and polish

mike ive just got a normal battery charger from tesco. ??? ???

i have 3 leisure battery chargers but there for the pure freedom battery which has a white plug on the end instead of the crocodile clips.

i thought i would get one with the streambox? ??? ???

so whats wrong with the normal battery chargers and where did you get your leisure charger from?

cheers pal

I am told that the inside of a lesuire battery and car battery are different so you need the correct charger .

Get yourself to Halfords thats were i got mine from its the Halfords fully automatic battery charger £39:99 but pop instore and double check you are getting what you need . Mike

Had a quick google and came across some caravan forums and they say that charging a lesiure battery with car charger could be risky .

As if you do not disconnect the charger from the battery when fully charged  the leisure battery could release gases . And a Car battery and leisure battery charge at different voltages and go through different cycles when charging .

Possibly dangerous and it will kill your battery far quicker  also some info suggests that a leisure battery should not be fully discharged and should be charged when the battery is 50% discharged .

Hope this helps Dazmond  ;D ;D. Mike
