HELP (MAYDAY)
« on: November 10, 2012, 05:02:29 pm »
Hi,

Started having trouble with freedom trolley; use as van mount with 100 metre hose reel.

Always worked fine then thursday varistream controller was pulsing; so water at pole was coming out in small blasts, stops for 5 seconds and then a little blast.

Thought was battery got another battery still same problem, put on spare pump vyair 7ltr a min.

Still stop start.

Got spare old style varistreanm spare controller (bit past it's best) put that on, still pulsing.

If no pole is conected to trolley or hose reel; the water will happily pump out from trolley no problem.

SO A PRESSURE PROBLEM?

I have no idea about pressue settings on pumps.
But as said was getting problem with original pump.

Lost 1 and half days now; and can't work til sorted.

Thinking of getting a pump box as not good at d.i.y and can't afford to lose more time of work :'(

Anyone recommend a pump box that doesn't cost a fortune, prefably with some sort of flow control.

Any advice guys.
Lee

Try unreeling your hose fully it may have a trapped section which is hindering it flowing.

Hi  Guys.

tried 2 different poles so not that.

Plugged pole straight into trolley, same problem.

Trolley pumps water out happily without pole in.

Changed hozlelock connectors too :'(

What happens when you turn the controller pressure up (not the flow)?

Hi  Mark,

I don't understand the pressure setting bit?

I know you can alter settings on the digital controller,

But i'm back on mark one varistream looks like dimmer switch.

Must be something to do with pressure as trolley pumps out water until you connect a pole to it, this is when it pulses.

The mark one version has the adjustment inside the box. It's a little blue dial so you need to open it up, tweak it a tad gently with a screwdriver.

Thanks mark, do you know how to do it on the other varistream (it's the digital 1-9 & boost mark 2)

I wonder why pressure would suddenly go wrong?
Been using trolley with 100 metre microbore for 6 months now no problem.

All of sudden stop starting with flow.

Now got new battery; changed pump swapped over varistrem :'(

Don't know if this make sense Mark new vyair pump had srew hole at top front for fitting water came through this so screwed in pressure sensor? it's blanked of hole so water doesn't come pi55ing out :-[

Will try the adjustment  inside mark 1 varistream you suggested thanks

Pump pressure switch is normally disconnected with a varistream.

The digital ones if I remember correctly you have to hold both buttons down together untill you get a flashing number then you press + to increase the pressure number or letter. Turn the unit off completely then switch it back on and it remembers the setting. It's possibly the colder weather that's affecting the pressure callibration.

If it runs fine all day then plays up then it's unlikely to be the pressure setting. More like a connection.

Don't know anything about vyair pumps I'm afraid but if you've fiddled with the pressure switch and it's still wired into the controller then it might be adjusted the wrong way and be tripping before the controller gets a chance.

Also with the digital ones you get a clue as to the problem by the flashing symbols - pressure reached, pump seized or battery voltage low.
Are you using barbed inserts in Gardiners pole hose by any chance?

Hi  Mark,  yes using gardiner pole insert plastic ones suspected this as barbed bit was kinked tried other pole but that has plastic pole connector  :o

Do these bugger pressure settings on varistream then :'(

Just to update you did what you said on mark 1 varisream opened up and turned blue screw, did with controller on and off and got it going ok at about a third round with dial and good enough flow with pencil jets to clean windows( so thank you very much for that Mark)

At least i can work while i resolve this problem.

Also connected digital flow controller back up; pump came on full blast WHEN DIGI CONTROLLER WASN'T ON!!
SO it seems digi controller is kaput!

So order another.
Are you suspicious of these gardiners connectors then
http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/nylon-male-pole-hose-connector.html

this is what i have except bit goes into pole hose is white; been using maybe a month not long.

Thanks for all your help Mark, so new controller; anyone you recommend?
And bin gardiner plastic pole hose connectors?
Thanks Lee

No, the connectors are fine, they do a different one for their push fit valves etc. sometimes it's enough to restrict the flow a little so that the pressure needs adjusting. The fact that the pump came on with the controller off sounds like you may have wired it up wrong?
If you accidentally reverse the polarity you'll either blow a fuse and/or fry the circuit board.
The varistreams and other controllers are designed so that the pressure can be altered for different lengths of hose and different diameters. A kink like you described might be enough to restrict the flow.

I use this one now very pleased with it.   http://www.springltd.co/node/67
