Dye gone
« on: November 10, 2012, 07:11:49 am »
Used chemspec dye gone on 3 jobs in the last  2 weeks, I've  got to say it is brilliant stuff but I've ran out, half of it went on the first job. At £35 it is way to expensive  for a very small couple of bottles.

But I will be ordering some more,

Mike,

If you want to save money you can buy the raw materials for a fraction of the price. As you probably know Bottle A and B are hydrogen Peroxide and ammonia. However you would have all the problems of storing hydrogen peroxide in a cool dark place eg cool bag/ fridge on the van. The clever thing about Dyegone is that Chempsec have found a way to preserve the Hydrogen Peroxide so that the product can be left in your van/ spotting tray without degrading.

You can make the product go alot further if you ditch the dual trigger sprayer. I just use a seperate plastic bottle to mix small quantities of A and B and then drip feed them on to the stain. This is a much more controlled way of using the product and saves alot of wasted chemical. If youndo this you can just buy the refill kits which are cheaper.

One thing to bear in mind for the less experienced cleaners on here. Often Dyegone will remove a stain by oxidation but at the same time it will instantly brown the carpet. This can be a bit scary at first because you may think you have damaged the carpet. In most cases this can simply be reversed by the application of a reducing bleach eg sodium metabisulphite ( spray and go )

Brilliant chemical but needs care when using because it is hazardous to you and potentially damaging to carpets and fabrics. However I consider it to be a must have chemical.

totally agree with ya mike, excellent stuff but on a big stain its all gone, which means you have to charge more for a stain removal than a whole room clean. well i do anyhoo. cmon richard, make it more affordable so we're not trying to make our own.

If you read the instructions though, it doesnt say anything about browning the carpet which I have also found it to do and subsequently reduced it with sod met. Also I have found it ineffective after a couple of weeks. I know it is too because when you first open the bottle and use it, if you get it on youre fingers, they go white and tingly where as that doesnt happen after a week or so!

Hydramaster version is cheaper, they sell it in 2 litres kits, (1 litre of each) for £25 last time I bought it.

I find browning with it also, ime this happens with both HMs version and Dye gone. I thoroughly rinse with browning prescription which sorts it.

Somtimes I go 6 mths without using any.

I recently did a job where I used almost a full bottle of Solvex, I thought the same, ooch this has cost me like £15! thats the other pricey one.

For browning use chemspec's browning treatment. Its called browning and coffee treatment now. Cheaper to use that than spray and go on browning stain.

Yeah, I found that dyegone was expensive to use, I made a post about it a couple of months ago on here.

Its slightly cheaper if you buy the refills, £28 for the two small bottles.

You should atleast get more product for the money they are asking for.
