Shrinkage
« on: November 07, 2012, 02:58:10 pm »
Today, I cleaned this well shrunk carpet (before I cleaned it photos).  Apparently the house smelt of damp dog for over a week after the previous clean.  I'm not guilty, but I know who is...

I wouldn't say who allegedly shrank it, as it's hearsay anyway. But I will say, they've been in business a long time, and are not NCCA members.  I'll mention it to them when I bump into them though...

Didnt realise you had to be an NCCA member to shrink a carpet ;D ;D

David, that is NOT well shrunk. I don't have any photo's but I've seen some shockers in the past. I bet some experienced members must have some great photo's somewhere.

NCCA guy near me running around with a yellow machine he carries in under his arm. It don't mean nothin.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Is it a B/wilton or a wool mix?

Seems an odd type of carpet to shrink if its not B/wilton.

Maybe it was badly fitted to begin with and just needs 'kicked' back in.

I've seen a few and none were my doing, even one thanks to NCCA member.
The 'best' I saw was in a hotel bar area following a flood from a burst pipe. It was half inch from the edge when I turned up but by the time I got going it was 1.5 inches away from the edge!

My best ( and only ) was 20 years ago and 9" on 9 ft. Whoops.
Pulled the gripper out of the concrete.
God must love stupid people---He made so many.

Looks like one of those old American polyprop carpets,

Fitting looks ok tucked down behind gripper so probably enough to stretch back.maybe fit wider door bar on other piece.

Depends how far you want to get involved...

Woven carpets such as Axminsters will shrink if flooded. They don't actually shrink they just change dimensions ;)
We've had flooded hotel carpets go by 3 to 4 inches and have managed to stretch them back with power stretchers, in one instance saving over £100,000 on replacement costs.
Don't know what type that is in the photo but looks pretty minor and a good fitter should be able to sort it. Notice I said "good fitter" just like carpet cleaners there are some poor ones.

WET DOG>>>>>It is so important that the customer understands the importance and purpose of air flow during the drying process. I have even got it on my works completion note. When the customer signs to clarify they are happy with the job, they are also agreeing that they have had the importance and purpose of airflow explained to them during the drying process, and that they fully understand what has been explained to them..

This does not look like your typical shrinker  :o , what is the type of backing, is it too late to take a snap of the backing, i would be interested in seeing it.
