TM engine problem
« on: November 07, 2012, 11:50:14 am »
Has anyone had this?

20hp Briggs and Stratton engine, v twin, the fly wheel seems to be not in the centre, it scraps the surround when starting, sounds horrible, and ideas what that could be?

bearing on the shaft?  do you get any side to side movement on the shaft?

could be a loose cowling? or one of the coils come loose and rubbing against the flywheel?

Ok thanks, I'll investigate both of those, if it is a bearing on the shaft is that a difficult job to do?

If the flywheel is running off centre I think you'll know about because it will be trying to shake the machine to bits.

I have known this problem a few times and in each case it was the cowling that had moved.
