Another pump question!

I have used the search feature but can't find an answer.
I use an slx and aquadapter....when I used to (up till 2 weeks ago) turn the water off then on again the water used to be immediately at pressure with no lag. Now when I turn the water on the water comes out as it should for a sec (it's releasing the pressure build in the hose) then goes to a dribble for a few secs and then comes back to pressure as the pump kicks in again. It only takes maybe 5 secs to be ok but it's a bit of a pain now turning off between windows and having to wait. I'm wondering why the pump is no longer kicking in as quick as it used to, or maybe it's something else....any ideas???

why turn off and wait just leave it and it will flow at full pressure in a few seconds
this happens to mine i am assuming its the pump building up to pressure

Do you work with just an aquadapter? Or do you have a controller?

What you are seeing is a normal rise and fall of pressure in the system. Bear in mind the longer the run of hose the greater the effect.

When the flow is stopped the pump continues to pressure the system working against the restriction. When the flow is restarted you will have a sudden release of this pressure build up, followed by a sudden drop of pressure and low flow. The pump will then take a few seconds to restore the pressure again. This effect is quite normal also bear in mind the air temperature has fallen in the last couple of weeks this will effect the hose expansion rates and make the lag seem worse.

If you have a controller recalibrate it with the full run of hose and aquadapter to take into account the change in hose expansion.

Ok, thanks for both answers. I should of mentioned I also use a varistream. It must be that it's now more noticeable with the temp change. I appreciate your replies.

As has been stated, water temperature and hence the temperature of the hose has made a difference to how the pump performs in the last couple of weeks. The hose being cold hasn't the flex it had before when the water was slightly warmer.

About 6 months ago I changed some minibore hose I had on my reel as it was expanding too much before the preset pump cutoff. It would then act as a reservoir and I would get a rush of water when I opened my Aquadapter. I always had water when I opened the Aquadapter. This happened with 1 hose but not the firmer hose I had on another reel.

The delay you sometimes get is not hose related, but a 'softer' hose masks it. The Varistream also acts as a pressure switch replacement. By setting the pressure switch electronics to cut off at a certain pressure, you are actually telling the Varistream to cut off when the motor draws a specific amperage. The higher the pressure the more current the motor will draw to reach that pressure. Once you turn you flow off, the Varistream will cut the motor once the pressure reaches the cut off point you have set. It will then send out a pulse current every few seconds (5 seconds on mine) to see if the tap has been opened again. You can time that delay by counting the seconds between the time the Varistream attempts to start the pump.

If I open my Aquadapter moments before the Varistream tries to start the pump, I will get an immediate flow of water at the brush head. However, if I happen to open the Aquadapter moments after the Varistream has pulsed the motor, then I must wait for the full cycle to complete again, ie in my case 5 secs at most, but it could be anytime less depending where in the cycle the pulse delay is. So in this case you will get an initial spurt of water, but once the pressure has died then this spurt of water turns to a trickle and then to nothing until the next pulse starts the pump.

I hope you can understand my explanation.
