Makes me cross
« on: October 31, 2012, 11:30:03 am »
Bit of a rant, why is it people turn up their noses ?
Why is it that people don't mind paying £700 >£1200 pcm for a rental property, but when you hand them a quote for £175 for a 3 story town house with approx 800 sq ft of minging filthy carpet they look at you like you have just butchered one of their kids. ?
Just can't get my head around it

If you don't need the work no sweat.
If you do, I have to say this, "lower your prices"

Sounds like a fair price to me. It could be they called someone else first and had an unrealistic price put in their head.

Know what you mean Mark, did a similar quote large rural old house approx 800 square feet, no parking outside so have to carry equipment over the road and up a flight of 15 steps to get to the house, quoted £195, which was heavily discounted to allow for empty house and volume discount (over 3 rooms).  Oh the cleaners are coming in the morning can you come after lunch and do it, yeah right, I said to do the job right it would take around 5 - 6 hours. Some people..........arraggggggggggggggg

£175 for what? Maybe 4.5 hours work.
Tradesmen round here at the mo are working
for £120 - £130 a day, they have to to get the
work.
I should know my brother and father are both
s/e tradesmen.

John, I was a Steel Fixer before this, used to get around £120 a shift (when I finished 10 years ago)

But what relation has that got to do with this? carpet cleaning is running a business.

I don't know why cleaners moan about £150 (after expenses) for half a days work?  Whats wrong with these people? ::)

The point I was making originally was how come people don't mind spending upwards of a grand a month on someone else's mortgage.
But when you give them a reasonable price for cleaning the minging carpets of the house they have occupied for over 2 years, they turn up their noses.
I cleaned the house over 2 years ago and charged £250, so I reduced my price for this quote by £75, as work is a bit slow.
They even commented on how good the carpets looked when they moved in, as I said I cleaned them

The point is most people would probably think it's an unreasonable price, what makes you think it's reasonable?

Everything is relative , Cambridgeshire is a reasonably well off area, people earn above average .A 4 bed house around here is going to cost a lot more to rent than a 4 bed house in other areas of the country.

The price you quoted seems perfectly reasonable to me. It's only human to think it's the economy or peoples expectation that it should be cheap, but I don't think that gets anyone out of a hole.

Start asking yourself and them lots of questions. Maybe you think you are still selling the benefits but have slipped out of the habit, maybe you don't say why others may give a cheaper service. etc

Even if you don't get the work on the next 20 jobs you don't hear back from give them a call and get information. Were they happy, what did they pay would they use them again etc.

If you feel you really are on a bad run give them three prices low med (your normal price) high and see what they go for. You may be surprised, also if they go cheap give them what they would have got off someone else with a buffer a smile.

It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

apart from the 2 highlighted points... which is not a lot of money on the figures quoted.... You pay the rest regardless of whether you get the job or not......

Better to get something in than sit at home all day with high principles and no money...  :P
