Been lurking for a while. but think its time to say Hi

I just wondered if I can have some advice, just had a call from a customer who has managed to spill inkjet printer ink all up the stairs last week, while im trying to figure out how you can manage such a thing, she then goes on to say she is trying to claim off the supplier insurance, but they have told her she can get it pro cleaned and try that first.

So, im just wondering, is this something even worth trying? And what to use, I still have most of the solutions sample pack, except mpower, and I have a prochem dealer within driving distance, tonight's visit would just be to give an assessment and test it, and then its up to her to fight it out with the company.

Depends what carpet fibre.  Wool, forget it... polyprop you have a very good chance.  Amyl Acetate is the best I've ever found for printer ink... I don't know what "branded" solvents from the main suppliers (if any) use it as their base ingredient though.

Acetone may be useful too

Prochem Solvall followd by solvex shoud do the trick, rinse with water, then treat with prespray as normal clean and rinse. But be aware ink can pentrate quite deep so expect to be a while removing it. If the solvents do not remove it, do a transfer test, try stainpro.

At the moment, I havent seen the carpet, so I appreciate its difficult, I think ill just go the prochem route and see what happens, its only to do one test patch, in saying that I well one of the female family members will probably have acetone, if im right in thinking its nail varnish remover, so may take that along as well and play it by ear.

And importantly remember she's been asked to have this done by the suppliers insurance. So, even if you are unsuccesful at removing it make sure you charge. She will then have to claim your charge back from them. Don't be mislead into having to invoice a third party.

It was a wool mix, and from the second i walked though the door it was obvious she didn't want it cleaned as the company has already admitted liability, so it seems a case of how much they are paying out. They had already tried removing it the other day with vodka which had given it a nice grey tinge, but tested with solvall, solvex and stain pro, nothing, so thanks to the tip above gave her a call out bill  and a letter saying IMO Its not going to be removable, and listed what I had done test wise just to cover myself, she paid on the spot, and that's that.
