I don't but you raise a very good point.
Very popular in Russia judging by the number of you tube clips available.
Good idea.

My mate is a driving instructor and he is also looking into this.
I will try and find out what he's going to get as he really looks into this sort of stuff. Would they also work as a cctv unit to protect van tools from night time theft ?

Thought this was a stupid question until I saw the reasoning on it. Its a very good idea and when I get my new car its something I would consider, by then someone will know the best place etc.

the ones i have seen/heard of record the last 30 seconds before an impact, or you can press a save button.

the cheapest way would probably be one of those cheap flip cameras and a big SD card, but you woud have to remeber to put it on every time you drive off.

This gives a brief write up of what these cameras can be used for. I like the idea of putting one in my sons car lol

The ones from Dogcam are called Roadhawk and cost £200. I haven't compared them to any others but they offer all the features I would want. Easy to fit, use etc {I'm a bit thick}.

I have one fitted , its just my gutter dvr , with a wireless camera from maplins , the dvr runs off the cig lighter and the cam is powered by 9v battery ,
I fitted it to watch the back of the van as some scrote whipped a pole off me a while back , the good thing about it is i just turn it 180 degrees and it looks right out the front window .

  These are pretty good.

I use one on the motocross bike for recording laps, it takes alot of punishment and records ok.

The quality isn't the best, but is plenty good enough to identify vehicles easily and see what happened.
