Carpet smelling bad after clean
« on: October 23, 2012, 08:01:03 am »
Synthetic carpet. Cleaned on Sat (3 days ago)

I forget what I used to clean it... I think it was SPM but maybe shockwave.

I did not acid rinse, since it had no wool in it.

Any idea what the cause might be?

Usually its because the carpet is still damp. Was it an empty property?.

No... it is occupied property.

Cleaned 300psi steaming hot water. It should have been dry within hours.

Was it foam backed? If so you could have over wet it. I would go back and bonnet it. Then over spray with Odourkill or equivalent.

Or it could be the adhesive backing breaking down causing the foul smell or old pet smells reactivated.

You will need proper cleaning of your carpet. Carpet is an important aspect for any house and it will require proper cleaning. if you will get some bad smell then it means your carpet need proper cleaning. Use vacuum and then wash properly will remove to help unwanted smell.

Can only have been left too wet or you've brought some old soiling or an old spillage back to life.

Either way it looks like a recall, a pain for sure but this time have a good look around for signs of an old spillage. Lift the carpet if possible as it could even be a problem with the underlay.

Cleaning again I'd turn the pressure down a bit, use less water accross the main area but really flush through any specific problem areas. I'd use a deodoriser both in the pre-spray and in the tank.

How can you not know what chem you used?

I forget what chem i used. I used spm on one carpet and shockwave on another, but I forget which one was which now.

I put mpower in the rinse tank about 200-1. Might this have caused the problem?

Sadly, that site is getting a lot of traffic. Have to agree that the English is poor but then again the SEO company is from Birmingham!

Joe,

Are you using an air mover / blower to speed up your drying?
