High Tds unsure what the problem is!
« on: October 09, 2012, 06:28:49 pm »
Hi chaps,
I've been a long time time lurker around this forum but never really said much!I have a problem I was hoping one of you maybe able to shed some light on.I have a brodex RO 500 litre system which is only 8 months old (yes i regret buying it off them).

My tap water reading is 450,which is usual.I've just taken a reading of when it goes into the tank and that is about 77 and its coming out of the brush at 36!I have checked the resin there is plenty in there only changed it about a month or so ago.I also changed the filter as precaution as i thought this maybe a problem.Came home after i'd finished work today completely emptitied the tank, tripled check everything.Am i just making a rookie mistake and overlooking something?or is there a problem i would not know about? I also flush the system out reguarly!

I've been WFP since i got this system so it's all still relatively new!

Thanks in advance.

Take it back to them and ask them to go over everything with you. Explain what is happening and see if they can shed any light  on the problem. Do you have a adjustable waste valve when you are filling? You should be making water down in single figures after Pre Filters and RO, and then di resin should take this down to 000.0. You might not be letting enough water to waste when making your water.

450ppm is a high tap tds. Because of that you should probably get around 20ppm out of RO before it goes into resin to bring it down to 0ppm.
What tds reading was you getting when system was new before it went to resin vessel?
And have you done a pre-filter change since you had the system (should be done every 3-6 months)?

Is your "pure water" coming out of the ro faster or slower than what it was previously, or at about the same as before?

Have you checked the pressure at the tap? I had the same problem and found out most RO systems dont work under 40psi. I put a booster pump inline and have boosted my pressure from 35psi to 80 psi and am now getting 006 tds into tank.

If the pure water is coming out faster than before it could be a waste pipe problem.
If you have a valve on the waste pipe make sure it's not closed too far and check there are no kinks in your waste pipe.

No problem with the water pressure since going wfp.no valve on the waste pipe,it is just one inlet on a manifold on the side of the van (brodex standard issue)

Have you connected your water hose to the waste pipe by mistake and running the water through the ro the wrong
way. John.

unfortunately brodex only fit a sediment filter so your r o wont last long
