I hope you used through mortise and tenon joints and not screws and nails.

I've got an old 6 foot wooden pointer in the van - it's really useful, use it for reaching over & unlocking gates or anywhere you need just a little extra height, re-clipping a bungalows guttering together sort of job. 
Very handy, and quicker than unclamping the ladders on the roof.  Bought mine on eBay for £17 I think

I hope you used through mortise and tenon joints and not screws and nails. 

Through joints reveal the end grain - not ideal in an outside - wet environment.
Slightly less than half depth , but yes tapered mortice joints underwired for safety.
