Winter Protection
« on: October 09, 2012, 07:42:48 am »
Hi
Covered up the pump in the van last night just wondering how cold it has to get before things start freezing up?
The pump and the DI vessels are the most expensive to replace I think.
I have an immersion heater fitted but is that enough to protect the pump and the DI vessels or do I need to do something else?
I have no RO in the van.
Cheers

Usually below freezing  ;D

I've had the pump freeze on a number of occasions with no harm at all.
DI Vessels though are usually ok unless we have extreme cold.
My 11 L Di split two winters back and despite my best efforts at repair it can longer cope with the pump pressure.
I was going to bin it until it occurred to me that it was fine when used as a static DI at home, so it now sits between two IBC tanks and happily deionises the water at ' gravity ' pressure.
