Salt causes damage to footpaths etc. I put salt on my black driveway ( concrete put down using mats) and it damaged it in several places. I have also seen lots of footpaths that were badly damaged by salt. If you get the blame for causing this damage it could cost you a lot of money or a customer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but grit and salt are two different things. Grit has salt in it yes, but it's not just that. I wouldn't used grit anywhere near my house or customers. It leaves a right mess and messes up patios. Kitchen salt works fine I've found, you just need to use a bit more.
