Glynn's a genius
« on: September 30, 2012, 07:02:35 pm »
We've always had with the Titan 875 not producing temperatures much better than 220 degree, even at full power, with a 1.6 litre engine burning a litre of fuel every 6 minutes, a massive blower, ambient and water-to-water heat exchangers, all working with massive lengths of hose, bringing the whole system under massive stress and generating huge heat, you'd think!
We placed the set screw orifice which we discovered had a fracture (which could have been there from when it was built) in it allowing hot water to circulate the system which overheated the water box causing it to dump a lot and thereby lower the solution temp.
As soon as we replaced the orifice holder and changed to a smaller orifice and adjusted the regulator a bit, hey presto the temperature rocketed up to and held way over 250 degrees, way more than it had never done before.
Glynn has an uncanny knowledge of the how these sophisticated systems work, which i have to admit baffles me, especially with the 875 having a telephone exchange worth of cables and electronics, so it's official, the guy is a genius and with it a great friend, so thanks, Glynn.
You're still a bfecfl tho!

Buggered, no, not working as efficiently as it should, yes. An 875 is a bit more sophisticated than your rotating mop, you silly ducker ;D

Q1. Why do you possibly need water temp of 250
Q2. One litre every 6 minutes :o I'm guessing you only use that machine for top end jobs

R1. 270 max temperature but on ordinary jobs you don't need that much heat but when you're cleaning two sides of an 800sqm carpet on the 16th deck of an ocean liner then you need that much heat to compensate for the cooling effect that occurs with 2x 400 feet lengths.

R2. 1 litre every 6 minutes at max power capable of running 3 Rx20's simultaneously £7.70 per hour which is peanuts in comparison to how much it is earning. Low power for domestics only £4 per hour.

Personally I'd say there's a design fault there. If you could put a suitable heating device 100 foot or even 50 foot away from the wand then you could save a lot of initial heat required (distance) and wearing out of the hose through extreme heat. I think there's be a saving on fuel usage and of course the environment (for those into that sort of thing).

Neil,
The solution temp costs zilch to produce and there isn't an inline heater that could deal with the flow, plus all the extra wires and rubbish, the last thing you need when cleaning 800sqm in under 4 hours.

I knew it... I knew it. If I waited long enough, one day, just for once Jim Neal would agree with me on something. Ok, calling a fellow carpet cleaner a  bfecfl, espically when the guy has helped you out in the pouring rain isn't an  ideal way to do it, but I did it...Yes!!!! ;D ;D

Oi, I'm not that easy, he's gonna have to agree with me at least twice and whisper something seductive in my ear, like, 'the sapphire scientific is a fantastic tool,Simon, you can play with mine if you like.' Then we might get a room, trouble is the room may be at Her Majesties pleasure.  ;D :o
