Help with Pump
« on: September 30, 2012, 03:16:51 pm »
Pump on one of my machines (extracta excel) was tripping the electric.

Looks like the switch on the end of the pump is a little corroded and burnt out.

Connected it up without the switch and pumps works fine. Thought the switch was something to do with the adjustable pressure on the machine but that still works.

Can someone tell what the switch is for and is the machine safe without it.

Thanks.

it's the on demand function. pump  switches  on and off when trigger pulled. take switch off and it will bypass. so run all the time. should be fine then.  ;)

Thanks.

Don't think the switch has been working for a while because the pump stays on all the time unlike my other Extraca which cuts out when not using. Assume they are there to prolong the life of the pump.

You should be able to get a replacement switch for it.  Whilst you're at it I'd get a new diaphragm assembly, sounds like it might have done a lot of work so a new diaphragm will give it a new lease of life.

The switch on the end of the pump is for on demand, not for altering pressure.
Disconect the 2 x wires from the switch and attach live and neutral to the wires that come from the pump.
It will now run continuously. When you are not squeezing the wand trigger the water recirculates in the pumphead and no damage will occur.
This will also extend carbon brush life as the greatest wear to the carbons is when the motor starts up.....a lot less times when on continuous than on demand. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. Bypassed the switch the other day and been fine since.

Was worried that the pressure in the head would build up when not using and it would go pop. But this seems not the case.

Thanks
