I've seen the magic...
« on: September 26, 2012, 04:01:35 pm »
Wow: I was met with a real minger of a clean today!

Students, carpeted kitchen diner, lots of spills and neglect.  Carpet was plain light brown, where you could find a clean bit.

I specifically told them I couldn't work miracles, and would not be able to make this carpet look new. I also told them I wouldn't guarantee getting ANY stains out at all.  After a 'discussion' on price I left them with my quote and politely walked out.  They called me back 15 minutes later.

I hit this carpet with Cleansmart Orange-X pre-spray, then used Prochem Double Clean in the HWE process.  We were all stunned by the results - magic was done today.

Wow, i normally use orange-x as an additive for other chemicals. You used it on its own? What ratio?

50:1 as a pre-spray - as it says on the label.

Here's a photo from the job - half way through the HWE process

100% stain removal is more dependant on carpet type rather than what chemical we use or  what the stains are.

Telling the client you can't work miracles or won't guarantee any stains come out is a bit defeatist attitude i think.......some say we should 'under promise  & over achieve' but we should really go in with a positive attitude

I seen many a disgusting carpet come up like new because they were a polypro' or nylon with just the minimum of chemical needed

So you used an in tank detergent? wouldn't it be more cost effective to of used a product like powerburst as a prespray and maybe added some of the orange X if the carpet had some particularly greasy areas?
Just a thought...

Double Clean label says put it in the tank.

It's early days for me, I'm still working out what's best for specific tasks, and you don't get much opportunity to play on customer premises.

As I've said it before, there's a lot more to this job than a few days of training courses.  I keep me ears open, read labels (!), and try to be very cautious... I've only had one recall so far, and I then upped the cleaning strength to great effect (happy customer, second time around).

I don't think so, it is trashed and needs replacing really.  It's a let; I think the residents needed to tart the place up before a landlord inspection.

Sorry Tony but you can't restretch a delamination ripple or bubble, it will just make it worse. The reason it has ripples or bubbled in the first place is because the carpet fabric has seperated from the secondary backing and already stretched due to it's loss of dimensional stabilty provided by it's adhesion to the backing.
Sure you can inject some adhesive to stick it back to the backing but as it has stretched there is now a greater surface area than backing area and it will end up lumpy - not worth the hassle, it's their problem, don't make it yours.

Dave you can, and I have, for many years been doing exactly that it is my trade.Of course it is not ideal and would never be a replacement for a backing that is totaly adhered originally. You would certainly not inject glue ( blimey be there all day )you would spray glue the backing to the carpet allow it to get tacky dry and then restretch it ,the carpet itself (not the backing ) will only stretch a certain amount as it would rip so it can more than happily be stuck back to the secondary backing restretched and recut without a problem regarding how much more of it there is . Regarding not worth the hastle mate well I and a lot of other fitters make a good living out of doing this as a part of our business. The only problem you would have in the stretch is in a doorway  because it has stretched  it could leave a gap ,but is certainly not a problem for a good fitter.Carpets are designed to stretch or they would wear out a lot quicker ,admitedly the cheaper types as shown are not as likely to look as good or wear as well and are harder to make good, but a great deal of carpets when first laid need a good restretch after a while and some do de laminate very early on in certain areas ,but are glued and refitted .I have glued delaminated carpets and restretched them and gone back years later and they are still ok .
