Hi, I have just come into a small amount of money £5000 I wan't to use it to start a small business. I currently work shifts 32 hrs a week I get 3 days off a week and 2 days when my shift doesn't start until 2:30pm.   I figure I could remain in my employment while starting up a business.


The question is, can i realistically start up a CC business on £5000  I would need the following

Training
Machine
Insurance
Chemicals
vehicle
Leaflets

Shot me down If I'm just dreaming.

That's enough to get started, but you'd need to reinvest probably 100% of your turnover for the first 6-12 months. I wouldn't expect to see any profit for 12 months or so (especially if you can't dedicate full time to it).

That's my opinion anyhow..

Please note: I do not advise this.
First year was tough, then Google eventually indexed my site and gave me enough work to keep buying new gear.
You could do it if you really want to, and don`t make too many mistakes that will cost/waste you money.

Thank you for the replies slightly more positive than I was expecting.

Re-investing would be fine as I would have the income from current employment which is enough for me to survive on, I currently save £100 a month.

I live in Worcester not sure where my nearest supplier would be. The days I work constantly change so no set days. I work in a care home and have my rota given to me 5 weeks in advance so I would be able to take bookings for that period.

 I don't have a vehicle at present I cycle everywhere.   Maybe an estate car would be a cheaper option? does anyone else use cars opposed to vans?

 I suppose I would be looking at buying all second hand equipment having such a low start up capital?

If you got a loan to buy a decent  secondhand van  the repayments would come from say the first job each week so you would not have to stress too much about getting work then reinvest as you go until you have enough and made all the mistakes to go full time

That could be a possibility and if need be I would do it, I was just hoping not to have to borrow money at this stage

Ha Ha. Your right Ian that's what I did in year two. If you take the loan, you`d better make your sure your going to get into it. Well, you will have to whatever way if you spend 5K. But how do you know till you try?  I`ll say it again good luck.

Having just been through the start-up process myself I'd say it's doable on that budget, but you'll have to be really careful how you spend it... second hand kit, training and lots of research/good advice is the way to go.  Keep the current job going.  You'll be the boss, so schedule your work to suit you.

...I'm still investing in this business, there's a lot more too it than at first sight.
