I have been asked to clean a Rodger Oats Wool Flat Weave carpet that is fairly heavily soiled.

I am a little apprehensive as i have a feeling these things are prone to shrinking.

This is the first one i have come accross in 20 years and after looking on the web site it recomends using dry compound.

This stuff wont touch it as it has been soiled by kids running in and out at a party and has well trdden in mud allover the runners.

Has any onee succesfully cleaned one of these using hot water extraction or is it a trash can job?

Why not give Roger and Fay a ring if you are apprehensive about clean it, they do look a tad up market unlike Lord Peckham

John, I have done a couple of stairs on a flat weave, it was a runner type stair carpet.

It had a kind of checkered or tartan pattern, it was blues and whites.
It was only to get up a specific stain which came up really well, I do remember thinking I would not like to clean it all when it get properly soiled. I had this feeling ground in soil would not come out easily.

I used a 6 inch stair tool and my Truck mount. No stain removers or prespray. Just hot water. And only a couple of quick passes, it was fine with that. But at your own risk

not sure if was the same stuff but I had a very nasty wine vomit stain at a local hotel which i went to take a look at. As soon as I saw it the alarm bells were ringing and I was lacing up my trainers. I took a sample piece which when I just dribble a little water on it did not shrink but did cause considerable dimensional change, it twisted. Despite appeals I did walk, I could of tried compound  or VLM/LM but I just could not see a win for us. I suggested contacting the supplier first thing Monday and they were kind enough to call me back and confirm my suspicions. No water dry clean only. Unless you can confirm HWE or similar has been tried trust your gut instinct, it's normally right.

Thank you, it has confirmed my suspicions. I am not going to tackle it as i dont think the result would meet expectation.

Why not give it a crack with VLM?  Chances are if you simply say to a customer you can't do it without even trying they're just going to ring someone else thinking you're no good at what you do and you've lost a customer.

Secret ingredient is to mist some m-power or neutral pH microsplitter from a trigger spray over the traffic lanes etc, spot up the stains heavier with it as well, then go over with your VLM system.  You might be surprised
