How many jobs a day, 2 carpet cleaners.
« on: September 10, 2012, 03:01:01 pm »
Simple question - Do you think 2 carpet cleaning operators could manage 6 jobs a day with a portable.
It would need to be at least 5/6 jobs a day depending on size of the jobs to make it pay for me.
I know it's possible, but not sure they would hack it day in day out.
I have a operator now who can manage 3 jobs a day easy,
but i was lucky to find him,i would need to find someone as good as him,
but going off past experience it won't be easy to find another!

Its easier said than done, but probably easier to concentrate on upselling extra rooms/upholstery to increase the value of each job, or alternatively have a 2nd person employed 2 or 3 days a week and make sure those days are fully booked.

I was thinking along those lines, maybe employing a lad at the weekend.

It's not viable for us Derek, will take up too much space that we need for other services,
have looked into it, but just don't think it's the best option for us the way we operate.
I would not need to pay thousands up front with a new lad like a truckmount and he could muck in on one off cleans or deliver leaflets if it went quiet, if it went too quiet i could just get shut unlike a truckmount :P

So you allow about an hour a job. In my opinion thats not long enough but maybe you can do suites and dirty carpets quick

You must have brilliant Marketing  to Generate 72 jobs a week

Might have misread thought you wanted each man to do six jobs but that said 36 jobs a week to find  could be hard

rather than use a number of jobs you need to work to a ££ day rate.

I work as a 2 man team and we could do 6 small jobs a day but would make more money doing 4 big jobs (which we could do in the same amount of time)

like ian said finding those 6 jobs a day would be the hard bit

72 carpets in a week is plausible I suppose but 72 jobs that's alot of travelling and set up/down, you do have to talk to the customer you know.

funny enough i saw one of these leaflets in a customers house on friday, what made me smile was I was cleaning a suites for £10 short  of twice the price they were doing it half price for.

it was the 'single colour printed on paper as thin as bog role' one

Hector you and your good lady would have worked a double week to get all of that done i guess the quality of work happiness went down (not to be confused with quality of your clean which I am not questioning) I do hope you gave her extra house keeping for that.

to be honest Shaun, it put us off carpet cleaning for quite a while..

We now do odd bits here and there, but not anything like that, and never will again....

Thing is I used to love carpet cleaning, now it is a means to an end.....  :-\

No extra housekeeping..............  :o :o   ........... good grief man I am Yorkshire too you know...   ;D ;D

Would imagine 2 people doing a total of 72 jobs
in a week is nigh on impossible.
10 a day 7 day week!!

John
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

I fully agree John

I thought we were on about 6 jobs a day..

We did 6 jobs a day every day for 8 weeks before we ran out of steam... enthusiasm and money...

When I said last year that Groupon made me go bust.... it was not too far from the truth...... It was costing us as much in fuel as we made......

Hi Deep Cleaning Solutions

I saw Shaun mention my name so thought I'd better stick my oar in.

Unfortunatley your "simple" question is I think more complicated than you perhaps initially thought. You say you "need 5/6 jobs a day to make it pay for me" but that obviously depends upon a/. the size of the job/time taken to complete a job and b/. from the rest of your post I'm not sure if you are referring to your operator and you acting as a 2 man team or whether you possibly meant your present operator and a FURTHER operator with you presumably acting purely in a managerial role. Obviously t/o and profit will have to be factored in as well.

As has been hinted (and also as Mike does) I work with another person and we work flat out at least 5 days a week. And I have never posted a single leaflet thereby saving me considerable marketing time.  From Cleaners Mate I see in the last 12 months I achieved just over 3.5 jobs a day, 5 days a week. However you should see my average job ticket! (Rhetorical statement that last sentance!)

But those stats do hide a number of issues. Firstly we cover for each other when the other is on holiday so effectively we can now choose to give 52 weeks a year service if we want. Secondly we can interchange driving/taking bookings on the phone/ doing quotes/ cleaning whilst the other is doing something else-this has given a huge boost to productivity.

Thirdly my all time record was 11 jobs in one (15 hour) day but it did include a couple of small stain jobs which with a spotter could be sorted in under 15 minutes. Also it included dropping a number of rugs back and being paid for. Finally a lot of the jobs were very geographically close together.

Now to "tin hat" time. I reckon a two man team, averaging over a number of jobs, can beat one man and a Tm hands down. I'm not going to get drawn into an arguement on this on the forum but as you seem to be thinking of proceeding down the avenue I have taken then you are more than welcome to ring me during the day to discuss it further.

I partly agree with the last statement about 2 workers being slightly faster than 1 tm worker but it comes down to so many issues things in life are never straight forward btw have you met the mother in law?
