Dry compount cleaning with Sebo Duo
« on: September 08, 2012, 09:16:24 am »
I've got a couple of dry-compound cleaning jobs coming up (using my Sebo Duo).

Which dry-compound do you use?  There's little info to decide which I should use.

I'm charging about 50% less for dry-compound cleaning than my HWE process... because it's quicker and easier - but the cost of dry-compound is significant (1st job is 105 sqm).

I use solutions VLM (or whatever they call it today) and I charge more for using it than normal cleaning (tell the customer it is specialised) after all it costs a hell of a lot more than HWE.....

I've used Envirodri's stuff a few times. Works well enough as long as you're realistic with your expectations.

It works after a fashion Dan..... But I would only use it in places that I couldn't get the buffer....... and only as a last resort.......

try it on a patch of your carpet at home.....You will probably be dissapointed....

I think you need to drastically re-evaluate something there!!!!!!!!!!

How much dry compound cleaning have you done up to now?!  Carried out properly, the process takes the same or longer than HWE and like Hector says it's a specialist service that should be charged a premium for

You Duo will work "OK" on most carpets but not all, a bigger machine will definitely be quicker and more effective on some carpet types.

I've been using the stuff from solutions, does a great job and has a nice fresh lemon scent... not sure if the latest stuff is the same scent, haven't bought any for a while.  I would guess little bags of Duo P is going to work out a lot more expensive than the stuff you buy in bulk from our trade suppliers

Not sure about what will work out cheapest but I have tried prochem stuff, host, and duo P and in my opinion Duo P is the most effective. Works well with a dusting of micro splitter before hand if appropriate.

Also.... I must agree with Jim you really want to be charging extra for dry compound cleaning, it will be more time consuming and costly to get an acceptable result.

Dry cleaning is a unique service and should be charged for accordingly, ok sebo powder not the best stuff to be using to get good results but each to their own

Thanks for the great feedback everyone.  As a newbie I've not done dry cleaning before, at all.  I was planning on adding this service at a later date when I've got HWE totally sorted.  There's more to this job this meets the eye.

Anyway, the reason I ask about dry compound is I've been asked to clean a large house with 100++ sqm of carpet, in about 6 rooms prior to a let.  The customer want a 'quick clean' job, NOT a high quality job.  So, I've told him I could dry clean it fairly quickly.  The house will be empty (pre-let). I'm planning on spending 3 or 4 hours on it and stand to make a couple of hundred profit!

It sounded like a good deal to me.... I'll let you know how I get on.

Isn't this common practice for 'maintenance cleans'?

I found enviro dri sponges to be the most cost effective giving excellent results, host sponges are also good but expensive

I'd use either LM with a rotary if they are not too bad or HWE if required, more profit in both these systems. Don't forget you will need to pre-vac, clean then post vac. I've never liked the phrase a 'quick clean' what does that mean, fill solution tank with water, flush carpet, present bill rather than the professional soup to nuts approach? Customers who propose a quick clean normally mean a cheap one but want spectacular results.

you will be a lot quicker with HWE...

try using the sponges at home.... you never get em all up, and you spend longer vaccing to get them up than you would doing the whole HWE thing... + you have to wait 30 - 60 mins for them to be ready to vac up.....

HWE or rotary you would be out of there 1 1/2 hours.......

I think you've turned my head with this job.  I'll do the full HWE process, and take the hit on the 50% price reduction.

I'd definately go LM instead of dry, the drying times will be minimal, result would be at least decent, and job time would be lower. If it was me, I'd forget about the granules, give Jamie cleaning systems UK a ring and get some Releasit in - if its the usual landlord stuff on the floor it'll be a cheap polyprop, you could use the Hydrox version of Releasit to brighten the carpet to give an even better impression too.
