will a Lamb 1400w go in a Prochem Steempro Powermax?
« on: August 10, 2012, 03:05:23 pm »
Alright Fella's

I need to replace the vacs in a Prochem Powermax, I have took one out and its rusty and sparking alot more than the other.  I spoke to Prochem who told me to buy a 1200w one for £220 - but I can get one nearly half this price from e-bay - the only thing is they are 1400w - will this cause a problem?

Try Woodbridge lamb motors are reliable i have tried the cheap ones of ebay and they dont last 5 minutes.

Last time checked lamb vacs were around £112 and should fit your machine fine.

Ta John,

I looked on woodbridges site - I will get it off them as I know it will deffo be a lamb they send in the post - sometimes ebay can be hit and miss.

I didn't know if the electrics on my machine could cope with a 1400w as its only 1200w now?  But it seems a few people have done this with no probs.

I also need a new pump - was going to get a 135psi Shurflo - you tried any other makes that are realiable?

accesory planet is the place to buy from, either
on ebay or direct from his site which is slightly cheaper.
They are genuine Lamb Ametek motors.
Also about £50 cheaper than Woodbridge with postage.

I thought ametec where lamb?

The prices on that accesory planet are great - but I can't see a telephone number, I wanted to speak to them for some advise before I bought of them.

What advice do you need.
1400w motors are fine in your machine.
What pump is in your machine at the moment.

AJB that was the advice, I also need better elbow joints when I fit the pump, was going to see if they sell them. The current pump is a shurflo 100psi but it's got a slight leak, i was thinking of putting in the shurflo 135psi.

Ta for the help

Hi Carl

We also use a Powermax and just fitted a Shurflo 135psi pump from Accessory Planet.
Here the day after and is a great place to buy from....(second that AJB).

We had a very very old 100psi pump in it and it started leaking..They also sell vac motors have a look.

Here`s a link to site

Hope this will help you out Carl

 the difference is ...

 the 1200w has 112 " lift ( suction )
 the 1400w has 137 " lift

Cfm is almost the same for both at 95

the 1200w draws about 5.5 amps
the 1500w draws about 7 amps

why do they use the 1200 as standard ? perhaps they are being cautious or strictly adhering to electrical product standards ... but two of the 1400w will be fine in practice , combined with your pump( 1 amp ) there will be around 15 amps max on the cord although this will fluctuate downwards during use ...   worst that can happen is a slightly warmer plug on extended use  than with the less powerful vacs  ...  other manufactures use the twin 1400w + pump on one cord so its fine .

pump wise , apart from the regular sureflo ect ...   prochem seem to be fitting a nice , 150 psi surflo induction pump which is available on ebay .
Accessory planet has the american aquatec pumps up to 220psi

The ametek premium vacs on ebay for 55 are made in the ametek european plants ....  the lamb ameteks  at twice that price are made in  the Mexican plant  :)

Thanks Richard & John,

I was worried that because the original pump is a 100psi the elbow joints and the valves would break under greater pressure of a 135 or 150psi pump?

Richard did you have change anything other than the pump because of the greater pressure? Sorry I am a total novice and these are the 1st repairs I am trying myself.

Thanks for the help

Hi Carl

Just had to cut the new rubber feet down a bit so i can get the nuts on the bolts but a part from that the machine works alot better.

We did have a new powermax machine with the 150psi pump but we had trouble with it from day dot (very loud machine etc).

Thanks John for your info on vac motors going to update soon cheers.

All the Older Alltec machines ran two 1400 vacs and a 135 Shurflo.
This pulled 14 to 14 1/2 amps. The plug gets a bit warm but as long as you keep a supply of 13 a fuses in your pocket you should not have any problems.
I have to change a fuse about every 12 months but otherwise they are fine.
God must love stupid people---He made so many.

It makes more sense to continue using the current
vac's, if you'd removed them and kept them, they
tend to rust. Much better to buy a spare and keep it well
packaged for when needed.
If one's started to spark a bit then i think you'll need one
sooner than you think.
