town house wfp advice
« on: August 09, 2012, 05:03:45 pm »
Evening chaps.  I'm talking about the 3 storey ones with the white fascia boarding in between floors.
I have a lot of comments of leaving streaks on the windows on these.  Seems to be my Achilles heel.
Im pretty sure its dirt dripping from the fascia boarding but not really sure how to stop it happening.  i'm not gonna clean the fascia boarding every time i come cos i'd have to charge them double the price.
its really causing me problems so does anyone have specific ways of cleaning these?

Normaly the drips shouldn't touch the glass as there sat in a recess ,however if this is not the case simply allow time for drips to stop ,shouldn't be too long.

Maybe consider one of these?: http://www.windowcleaningwarehouse.co.uk/shop/high-level-cleaning/unger-fixi-clamp.html
Fixed onto another pole with a sponge wrapped in a cloth in the clamp jaws and give the weather boarding a quick rub to dry off.
That's what I do after gutter/fascia cleans to stop the water dripping onto the windows.

the thing is though the boarding are barely recessed so after rinsing the window the drips do go all the way down the boarding to the next window below.  i do generally wait for the drips to stop, but this means it takes twice as long ot clean the windows.  was hoping someone might have a decent method to solve this problem

Yeah I think whatever you do it's still gonna be a pain and take you a bit of extra time.
Using the least amount of water you can get away with and possibly rubbing a cloth over the weather boarding is the only way I can think of.  :-\

trouble is though, the water gets literally all over the fascia so it'd take almost as long 'soaking up the water' as it would cleaning the fascia every time.

my problem is im facing stiff competition from a trad cleaner who obviously wont have this problem so i wanna get it sorted

Try doing tops front, then tops back. Then back to the front and so on. Bit of a ball ache but at least the drips will have stopped

There is no quick fix, either just accept it will take twice as long ,surely it only once a month or 2 ,or just move on and replace customer,I personally would just wait and accept it.

Why spent £15. On that just wrap a cloth around the brush head

I have a couple of houses like that and have cleaned the fascia as well, but then there not that large so it takes less than a minute after the initial clean.
If its a new job then maybe you'll get one of the neighbours then just nip round both tops and let them drip.

Just move on, not all houses tick the boxes. Just clean the ones that do. Thats what I would do. You spend too much time and effort trying swim up a waterfall. If its not going to work accept it.

I had a run of four of these with a similar problem but cos it was four I could do all the tops etc.
Think whether you're likely to get some others there if you think you will and you have the time then do the fascias if not walk away.
Will seem gutting at first but I agree with vince green on this one

Had a couple of these in the past -

just up- sell them a gutter, soffits and fascia clean or if don't want to spend too much money just the fascia boards in between.

Once they've had a proper clean they're not a problem.

If you don't ask you don't get !!

thanks for the advice chaps.  for most of them i do sell the fascia cleaning.  i do do 4 of them so i think that yeah, i'll just have to take my time, do all the tops, then all the middles etc
