i'm a bit behind the times when it comes to the latest systems...just wondered is this as good as it say's it is anyone use one.

They have been about for years! I have one but will replace it with a 40/40 system as soon as I get round to it. The Merlin is a decent bit of kit and does produce a good amount of water fairly quickly, though it will go through filters much quicker than the 40/40 systems. I would say it depends on how much water you think you will use and what your tds reading is where you live as to whether its a god buy or not.

thanks mike..its not for me i'm searching around for my brother as he is just starting out his water is over 300 and at the moment would only probably need about 600lt a month but will require more as time goes by so was thinking this would be a good cheap start up ro system, the problem he has is he cant get his van near the house but can run about 30-40mt of hosepipe from his house to his garage where the van is so ideally needs to fill up as fast as possible he also has a good mains pressure.
Do you use a booster pump and what is your rough litres per min that yours produces.

I have about the same set up as your brother requires, merlin is on outside tap, no booster pump,  from front of house with hose running from merlin thru garage and di vessel before going to van. TDS is about 330 for me before and anywhere between 25 and 40 after. If he is only going to use 600 a month that system should be fine, that said if he is only going to use such a small amount perhaps he would be better off buying water from someone nearby (if there is someone?) as and when he needs it, that would almost certainly be his cheapest option

thanks mate... as for buying water he already tried that, 2 places near him 1 wanted 20p per litre and the other wanted £8 per 25lt

A fellow cleaner is on his second Merlin. Cheap to purchase initially but very inefficent in production. Both of his run at about 90% efficency so he uses a fair amount of resin to clean up the other 10%. He also has a high waste the pure ratio although he always has plenty of water.

My advice would be to go with a RoMan type r/o, at least a 300gpd but better a 450gpd (same unit but with different membranes) and collect his pure water in a 1000l IBC tank. This will give him plenty of scope for expansion. A decent r/o system will produce at an efficency of between 97 - 99% will will reduce resin costs - ours is a 3 - 1 waste ratio with a 99% efficency and the membranes are 6 years old.

This r/o will only produce half of what a Merlin will do but ours has served us great for nearly 7 years and it was about a 1 1/2 years old when we bought it.
