just got a call from a guesthouse about a red stain (now pink) on a cream carpet she's tried scrubbing with market bought stuff so gonna give a go tmoz using my normal routine. Then bring out the dye gone if no joy on the stain (1st time i'l of used this) do you think that will do the job??? as last resort iv'e got my goggles at the ready any more tips before i let myself loose with this??

Phil,
If the customer has been tampering with it, especially with an oxi type product then the stain is no longer wine, it's wine plus whatever she put on it and that makes it chemically different than just wine, so Dye Gone may do nothing.
Also find Dye Gone very hit and miss, in fact more miss than hit.

cheers Simon i'm gonna use my normal gear 1st then dye gone as last resort i explained to the custy that she could of made the problem worse by trying to scrub it out i'l just do my best and hope it pays off as this is her best room in her guesthouse so could mean recomendations and repeat work hopefully.

Got Goggles, Normal latex gloves are these sufficient but to get a mask which i will in the morning cheers Ash.

You'll find latex gloves will break up after a few minutes (see my thread), I'd ue thicker rubber gloves next time.

Red stain... blood?  wine? beetroot? blackcurrant?  Ink??  Different chemistry might be needed.  I would want to know a bit more about it first.... however I would have heard enough by the time she said "I've had a go at it myself....."

I'd seriously not expect a perfect result, if any sort of result at all.  Most of the stains I attempt to remove that have been assaulted with vanish etc don't go very well because the chemistry has been changed

If you use the Dye Gone give the spot a thorough rinse and dry it off with lots of dry passes. Mask the surrounding area when you spray it on and try and keep back from the edge of the stain in case it migrates outwards during the dwell time.

Dye Gone is not the be all and end all it's hyped up to be. I've been very disappointed with it as it is no better than HM's  Knock Out (which is very much cheaper) and only works (when it works) on new stains that haven't been tampered with. I was encouraged when it took lucozade out of a sample carpet, but then when used out on jobs fails miserably most of the time.  CSR spotter on the other hand does seem to deal with the same issues a lot better.

well got to the job and couldn't even see the stain it was that faint so no pics lol i tried my spotter no joy so tried the dye gone and GUESS WHAT?? it didnt touch it i explained the problem and they was happy with my service i did clean all the room and sold her a spotter for half price so she can do it proper next time it happens oh and got a job from the hotel next door so all good.
