I'm about to order an SLX25 pole from Gardiner but I've never used one of their brushes before.

To be honest the brushes I've seen on some of my mates gardiner poles I have not been impressed with - badly out of shape bristles etc after only a few months use (black bristles, don't know what model brushes).

My brush of choice is the Vikan 11" red/green brush http://www.arco.co.uk/products/56T0200/17834/Vikan+Standard+Waterfed+Vehicle+Cleaning+Brush but since I'm getting a nice lite pole I thought i'd try a gardinder brush.

What model is most like the Vikan in terms of wear (have vikan brushes over 3 year old still going strong), and stiffness (nice splay on the glass but never loses shape)??

I've got 2 gardiner brushes but must say I keep going back to my aerial mono, its not lost any shape and has excellent splay on glass.

Flocked Super-Lite DT Standard would be the most similar. Another good alternative, but providing mono-filaments would be the Medium-Mixed DT.

I would not expect any lightweight brush to last as long as a Vikan brush due to the fact that they weigh about half the weight. Even a Vikan should be changed regularly though as the bristles lose end definition after extended use and will not clean as effectively as a new one.

i agree the SL DUAL TRIM FLOCKED STANDARD GARDINER BRUSH is the best for scrubbing the glass,snail trails etc.they last well(about 12 months).

I use 2 radius sill brushes(medium bristle(white) and the soft version(black) for the simple reason they are ultra light and  they are great for upper sill cleaning.not bad for scrubbing.prob last 6 months each before needing replacing but i can live with that.

once you get used to a light brush its hard to go back to vikan brushes!

Daz, what brush is best for upper sill cleaning and that does the job most resi work? Link me up mate as I need to get one

Medium trim sill brush will do everything you need mate,just choose pencil or jets on gardiners web site.

Cheers Cliff. The viken brush we use at the minute has pencil jets. What are the advantages or disadvantages of fan jets ?

Fan jets only really work well with a higher flow rate,saying that its worth getting it with the fan jets in and trying it out for yourself ,if you dont get on with them put the pencil back in.
I prefer the fan jets because i can rinse quicker but it really is down to each individual.
Defo get a light weight brush though mate they will make pole work easier,the lighter the pole and brush you can get the better.

hi james i use a variety of brushes.i find the sill brush soft(black)ideal for leaded windows and wooden georgian windows.

the sill brush medium(white)is good for conny roof/fascia cleaning and dirty first cleans where the frames are minging!

and the medium extreme brush is ideal for high level work using my 40ft supermax due to the sheer lightness of the brush.

i also have the standard supalite dual trim brushes in both the soft and medium bristle but they dont get used as often these days.

my vikan standard brush is now only used on a short pole for cleaning my van and car!!
