Prowler owners... help please
« on: July 19, 2012, 11:11:13 pm »
Hi people

I picked up a second hand 2010 model prowler today, just wanted some help and advice please.

1 How is the temperature controlled? i know about the bypass valve which is located on the front of the machine but is there anyway of setting the thermostat?

2 The chemical injection has a dial with numbers on... but how do you know which point the number is active as you turn it? also which number corresponds to flow rate?

3 Not sure exactly how many hours work this thing has done, so i may do a service on her, advice please on what to buy... oil, plug, etc..

The instructions are very basic which ship with the unit, so any info or tips would be helpful !

Thanks guys

Russ

Temperature is fixed. The guage is only a safety device and opens the bypass solenoid when the two needles touch. Don't get bothered about temp I cleaned fine cotton suites with mine no problem.

The number on the chemical guage should line up with the nipple which has the hose on
The numbers relate to gallons per hour (US) most stock solutions use 3
As I said Russ is not a carpet cleaner, he bought this to try and get more carpet cleaning but he didn't really push it.
Oil for engine and pump is 10/40 semi synthetic, wouldn't bother cleaning plug.
Just make sure there is always water going through the machine, I take it you got the bypass wand as well. If so use this when ever you are not wanding. Just crack valve open slightly. This helps get hot water to the wand quickly as well when you firts setup.

John when i looked inside a prowler, the  filter it had was the prochem wastetank  filter, to remove the crap going through the blower,  I always found these to be a bit restricted and easily to clog, would you think it would be a good idea to remove it and use a bigger external filter like the airhog?

I know the internal filter has worked great... but it must get clogged very quickly

Wasn't that much of a problem as long as you kept it clean and hosed it down at least once a day. Joe Hatton used to put a pop sock over it and just discard it at the end of the job.
Any filter would work as long as it was there you don't want any crap going into the blower.

Thanks John

Please could you explain what the second yellow valve is for next to the bypass solenoid?
Also am i right in saying the blower takes 80w 90 oil? cant make any sense of the lubrication section in the Roots instructions but Ben mentioned this grade of oil in a video?

I have an Lint hog, would this be ok to use with the Prowler?

Cheers

I use a pop sock over my filter, saves cleaning filter between jobs. I have one of these http://www.restormate.co.uk/epages/15094.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/15094/Products/0039

which i use to clean the filter at the end of the day. Takes a minute and its variable so you can get a pencil jet between the filter fins.

I rinse with high heat from a 25ltr container and set to 3. On real mingers i rinse with formula 90 set to 3.

I would recommend setting the pump up that feeds the machine, with a bypass back into fresh water tank rather than having it stop start.

The machine is simple and very easy to maintain. You can get a service kit for the Honda engine off ebay.
JK carries more specific spares. I carry a spare pressure hose and have a spare rubber coupling.

Grease the machine weekly and spray wd40 at the end of the day as directed and the machine pretty much looks after itself.

Hi Andrew

I wont be using a tank as i simply do not have the room, just invested in a very long good quality hose on a reel.
You mentioned greasing the prowler? do you mean greasing the nipples on the blower?
If so what grease/ grease gun is recommended?

Do you de scale your machine? what would be the best way to do this?

Many thanks

Russ

I wouldn't use one as I used a hydro-filter and it put too much strain on the machine the belt kept coming off

Just keep a small wire brush on the van, if the filter clogs just brush it down

Pressure wash it every now and again too.

Not every porty user has the funds to buy a TM... Still have the jag and it still serves a purpose as a powerful go anywhere machine.
I felt it was time to step things up a bit.
