my water meter is coming!
« on: July 06, 2012, 07:14:00 pm »
Been dreading this. got home tonight and on the front page of the local paper is the report that water meters will be fitted towards the end of the month.
I use about 1000 litres a week on a 3 day week.
Our rateable value seemed quite high so maybe it will even out.
How have you guys found the change over to a meter?

to help with the cost, speak with a few customers and find out if some of them without meters would be ok for you to fill up evry now and then. If you don't take the mickey it should be ok.

install a water meter on the inlet side of the ro,get them of ebay that way you can tell the tax man exactly how much you use

and then by aqua adapter and cut down on the water usage

Are you sure about that? Why should others fund his business costs? Combat says he uses approx 1000 litres a week, that's going to cost about a pound to supply and there'll be a similar charge from the waste water company. No need to approach his neighbours really.

The rateable value thing is a real con especially if you have a decent size house and don't have a large family.  We moved from a 2 bed terrace £180 per year to a 3 Bed Detached £440 per year. Got a meter fitted (hadn't even heard of WFP at the time ) instantly down to £240 per year.  You have a year to try it out If you don't like it you can revert but If you sell the house the next occupiers have to take the meter.
