Anybody had any experience with fitting the quick release neck to there slx apose to the screw top...?

Seems pretty stright forward but most things do on paper

Yes, I fitted one to my original MKI SLX. Just follow the instructions & you'll be ok.

Yes.

I heated the end up with a heat gun (to soften the glue) & removed the end screw. However, I think you can also just saw the end off.

Thats right, I did mine this weekend on my mk1 slx35. I used a hairdryer to soften the glue up and with a set of grips on the screw thread gently eased it out (I didn't fancy cutting the pole - every inch counts!  ) . A bit of sandpaper to scratch up the top of the pole and the inside of the clamp, clean the dust off with the wipe, apply the adhesive and ease the clamp on, simples! Just take your time.

i keep opening the wrong clamp every time i extend the pole :

ill get the hang ov it soon 

old habbits die hard i guess

but yes very easy to do  and a much better system i recon

very disapointed with mine - the clamp was hugely oversize to the pole section and required loads of glue to fill the void.

every couple of days the glue just couldn't take the pressure and movement so the quick release just kept coming off - binned it as a bad jobbie and returned to the screw thread

Sounds like you had the wrong size clamp included in your kit. It should be a number 1 clamp which is a good tight fit for the number 1 section. You could give our office a call and they can sort this for you. Having the quick release system is well worth it.

Turn the new QR clamp to a different position to the rest. I have all my normal clamps on the left side of the pole but I have the end QR clamp 45 degrees further round- on top of the pole. This way there is no mistaking the odd one out.

Bought my slx second hand and not 100% what mark it is? Is there any way of telling from looking at the pole if it's a mark 1-2- 3 etc???

Cheers Alex - it was defo. a no.1 clamp - i remember i ordered one for the clx as well which came with a piece of c/f tube
but never fitted it.

i put some of the trouble down to using an A/D on the end and with a good 1/2 a millimetre clearance for the clamp to
pole section the glue just could not cope with the strain ( and i tried various glues )

not overly worried they are afterall only a couple of quid

I can't keep up with the improvements that you keep making Alex  .
I've ended up with some clamp ends and some threaded ends.
Is there still a choice of threaded ends on the CLX pole? - and will there continue to be?  It may sound odd but I have a several jobs where things are so tight, I would not be able to fit a gooseneck into the gap.  Although I could clamp a threaded insert onto the end, the tightness of the job means that it would be tricky cleaning without knocking the clamp off the end.  To give you an idea of how tight it is, when using the plastic angle adaptor, I must use it almost straight.  I also rub the no 1 section against the building.  The building has very wide concrete beams (they were maintenance walkways with harness hooks in less safety conscious times) and the gap between them and the building is quite a squeeze for a pole.

The Mark 1 has clamps that need tightening with an allen key - unless they've been  replaced of course.  Maybe ask the previous owner what clamps they had when he bought it.

I think section diameters are different with Mk I.  A bit confusing for the less initiated  .  I'm not certain but I think the old no 1 section was taken out of the equation on Mk II and a section added to the fat end.  Or it may have been the other way around.  I'm sure Alex will fill in on this as he knows his own products better than I will.

SLX25 MK1 & 3 had a 25mm diameter top section.
All others have a 22mm diameter top section.

This is the only difference that you need to identify as this dictates whether a NO.1 clamp will glue right on or whether it will need the clamp with tube section fitted.

Only the CLX14 still has a thread on the end and this will only be until we have worked through the last of them on the shelf. Then all poles will feature the quick release. Of course if you still need a pole that has a screw thread and no clamp we can always fit one up for you as we still have a supply of alloy screw threads which we sell.

Alex, talking of quick release, are you planning on making a insert so people can have a screw end if they wished ?|

The reason I ask it is all well and good having this quick release clamp but if you need to pop in a shop to replace it you cant, if its a weekend that little saving would be a massive loss as the parts are not mix and match like the older plastic goosenecks most of us have/use.
They are a different size to the older plastic goosenecks.

Also one more thing is there any chance, or do you already do metal barrel nuts for clamps ? as the plastic ones wear out quickly on some clamps (which I still can't figure out why, my guess is lightness over lifespan)

We do a Quick Release Alloy Converter which simply fits into the top clamp and allows any screw fittings to screw on to our pole ranges. Have a look on our website for this part under pole fittings.


We do have some aluminium barrel nuts in stock with matching lock-bolts. Give the girls in the Office a ring and they can supply you with some.
