this is an  anonymous poll so please be truthful ;)

i'm top of google for all my search terms either as an organic listing or on google maps ( sometimes above the map listing as an organic position) but get maybe 1 job a week, I know my prices page will put off a lot of calls but i still think I should get more jobs

how are youi doing?

I have 3 web sites and one ranks very highly in my area, i would say i get about 2 jobs a month out of it.

the last time i spoke to Mark at DP design he was telling me of carpet cleaners who are getting all their work from their websites, interestedly they were in the south.

he surmised that it was a geographical problem and that the south has more technology based industry so consequently the population was more computer savvy

I would agree with that. I speak to many local guys who say the same thing yet the guys i know further south seem to get some or most of their work from the net. I think its strange that it goes from one end of the scale to the other.

I'm ranking well for my nearest town but to be honest it is not producing great results. I don't currently have prices but am considering introducing them again as most web enquirers seem to be price shoppers.  I also happen to be in the South, well north of London but South of North if you follow me ;D

For those of you who are getting a good response from your websites, do you have prices or special offers?

Nearly all our new business comes from the web, producing on average 5-7 jobs a week.

When I ask specifically how people found us, ive found most click through on the google Adwords even tho we rank high on natural listings .

I would've of thought it would of been the other way round, but not so.

We're in the deep south  :) & no prices on website,

Regards
Steve

The main problem is if you don't live in a big town or city (or prepared to drive to one) you can't expect much response from sites purely ranked on carpet cleaner <yourtown>

If you do live in a high population area that's great but there will be much greater competition for rankings.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

I used to get loads of work from Huddersfield Site when it was top of Google but since the algorythim change its dissapeared.
Got top listings for Halifax and maybe get 2 jobs per week.
The 2 towns are next to each other so i can not understand why each area seems to work different.

more stats...

47.1% go straight to the prices page after landing on my home page

52.9% of this 47.1% leave my website from this page ( so they find out the price then don't look at any other pages they just click away)

So Mike what do those stats mean. That 240 odd people visit but only a few ring as that is a concern. Or something else.

I would replace the page with another one to see if it makes a difference. Instead of percific prices replace it with an offer then when they ring do your stuff to convert to a job. The key here is to "give them a reason to ring" rather than just leave the website.

I'd hazard a guess and say that having a price page has stopped the enquiry from the customer they then enquire elsewhere not just to price shop but to get more information if they then get an answer from a live person selling their services they are more likely to book them, IMO I think price pages can take away the human element unless you get so many calls that you need to screen most out.

Does it show how many click through via this forum or any other site or forum you may be on and have your site details on?

I used to have a free office live site and it showed referall sites in the stats. So when i started posting on here when i first came on  i guess everyone was checking me out via my site as the hits / referrals from this site went through the roof..

While i try my best with SEO and try to rank as high as i can i dont really get hooked up on it... i see it as a point of reference for my customers via other forms of marketing..

ian google analytic shows everything incuding the countries & town of who clicks, it also show the source, yes I do get clicks from ciu but not many.

I will change my prices page but to be truthfull I'm busy without getting calls from the internet.

I really only like my website doing so well on google rankings because it winds up my competitors and makes them waste money on Adwords ;D ;D
