wet decking
« on: June 18, 2012, 04:28:45 pm »
last week i was cleaning a house, when i got to his decking it was so very slippery to walk on let alone put a ladder on, i got round it by using my pole, but it got me thinking, who is responsable if me or someone had an accident on it.

i would have thought the owner of the house, but as we still have a hose pipe ban in my area, could it be said that the water company have some of the blame as by stopping people using a hose pipe/pressure washer they are stopping people maintaining patio's, drives , decking etc which affects the health and safety of people like me.

whenever you pay someone to work on your property, its is the homeowners responsibility to ensure that they can do the job safely.  i think if you slipped on their decking then legally, it would be possible for you to sure the homewowner

my point was the slippery decking, not putting the ladder on it.

who is to blame for the slippery decking if i slipped on it and injured myself,  the owner and or the wate company for not allowing him to pressure wash it, is their water bans preventing people from maintaining health and safety.

Yes full written risk assesment is the law when using a ladder, and all the risk would be identified on that, as well as suitable footwear, and as for the decking, even with the hosepipe ban, a pressure washer can be used legally by yourselves, as you are a business, or the homeowner can use a water butt.
