I use a digital varistream and connected it to the battery arse-about-face this morning.  I had a fuse supposedly protecting it, but it doesn't seem to have worked; the fuse has blown and when replaced the varistream has lights on, as if it is working, but the pump doesn't work.

Is it knackered?

If so, is it simple to reconnect the pressure switch back on the pump so I can work till a new one gets delivered?

THE FUSE WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU WIRE THE RITE WAY ROUND.

not sure on that one ... sounds knacked... but if anyone's got any links to flow controller circuit diagrams I don't think mine is wired up right doesn't seem to do anything to the flow just start stop i use a needle valve for flow control

hang on where does this pressure switch live? do i need to remove it?

Ive blown(or should I say previous staff) digital varistreams in the past, if you open them up and look at the circuit board it blows a copper ribbon that is covered with a silver coloured thin metal.
Unless you are a dab-hand with a soldering kit(cos it's like micro surgery) you may as well scrap it.

Bypassing the pressure switch is mega easy, simply disconnect both red wires from terminals on pressure switch, stick a paper clip or anything that conducts to make a circuit.

Re-connecting the pressure switch is easy also, just make sure you have all the components, make sure you dont lose that little spring, then re-wire using some terminals from maplin or any car parts shop.

Hi Tosh the reversed polarity will have blown the pump control circuits, Dependant on the age of the control it may be easier to simply replace the controller.

Yes reconnecting the pump pressure switch will allow you to work connect the battery direct to the pump.

This one is something I've put together. It's very low tech,.. but it does have reverse polarity protection.

Just starting back up went out today 1st 5 customers ... Last night did what tosh did as making a mobile pump box and blew the controller... I bought a Ionics trailer to put in van.

Question have ionics  old flow controller
which just adjust the flow but pump does not stop just pops fittings and have too walk back to it. How do you stop pump without flow controller such as varistream..

Thanks, Ian - and everyone else.  I'll give a window cleaner a visit tomorrow who works without a flow controller; he just uses the pressure switch on the shurflow pump; and I'll copy the wiring on his till I receive my new un'.

It's annoying though isn't it?  Just one lapse in concentration and 'poof'.

I live in Brighton and I've heard that as a reason many times.

That window cleaner you'll be visiting wouldn't be Mr Nice Giles or Squeaks would it?

Seriously though, the wiring up of the pressure switch is a doddle but it's easier seen than explained.

Personally, I use a voltage regulator rather than a flow controller. It's a lot lot cheaper and works flawlessly. So I loose a little pressure on higher work but so what? If it's that bad, I increase the voltage a bit just for that job.

Most half decent electrical items are protected against being wired the wrong way round. It only takes a diode, not rocket science.

have a look inside it first, it may have an internal fuse.
