it takes time, its organic.

the older your domain, the more relevant links, a few other bits, the better you will rank.

Things take time, you can get up the ranks quickly but its getting it to stay there which is the art. Some areas will be easy to rank high others won't depends on the competition

I would avoid them like the plague, back in late 90's we used this, doing so now will get you removed

As Steve said organic is the way to go, DO NOT ADD LOADS OF LINKS TO OTHER PEOPLES SITES (this is a little tip for you)
