got 1 at 160 quid and 1 at 196 quid ... is it worth proceeding? i dont know? what would you do fella. ive stopped cleaning them and keep getting the runaround .. its a new slx or do i just leave it???

I have had my fair share of domestics stiff me over the years but now I get hardly any.
I have a letter I send them which usually works.

Most people know full well that you wont bother with court action and laugh at the threat, so I now tell them I will be selling their debt on to a recovery agency.
I tell them the £75 cost of selling the debt on will be added to their bill and the agency will send agents round to collect.

I send the letter then forget about it and them. If they pay (they usually do) then great. If they dont I know they have had a few days wondering if I will do it or not.

With these I would not take to court, the debt is not worth the effort, what I nomally do is to send a invoice quoting the late payment of invoices act, I add a £40 charge plus a daily interest rate of 8%, I then give them 7 days to clear the debt before I pass it onto a debt collection agency, who because you are a business, they will add charges and they will get a court order to send bailliffs in and because you are a business you cannot refuse entry.

I will also pass your details onto every window cleaner and business service provider in the area to get you blacklisted for credit.

Do this and the cheque will hit your doormat.

I know its not the right thing to do but one custy owe me 55 quid i knew he was avoiding me this went on for 4 months and after loads of phone calls still no joy .so when i saw his van in town i propped a 3 inch nail against every tyre .like i said it makes me as low as him BUT BOY IT FELT GOOD !!! now i think we are quits

You punctured 4 tyres on a van for £55 owed you? No this makes you much lower than him.

I would send them a letter of intent, I would then follow it up with notice to serve. Most business' will pay up then, for them amounts I would claim it back, I would also claim for my expenses which would be alot more than the bill they first owed.

....one of the key reasons i chose window cleaning as a living is the fragmented customer base, if you were a kitchen fitter and got knocked it could ruin your financial year and could put you out of business, not to mention the stress. I wouldnt chase anyone for anything under 500 quid, solicitors time plus my time plus angst just not worth it. just my opionion...

i really cant see the difference between 500 and a couple of hundred.. why would i need a solicitor im not buying a house..no stress on my part the only outcome is whether you get the cash or not imho.. yeah you are right about its not gonna make a great impact on the overall business... thanks though

...I see your point, what I was saying was purely from my perspective. As 200 is 300 less than 500 I wouldnt chase. I would have a solicitor handle the small claims procedure on my behalf as it is time intensive and from experience, is more likely to result in a successful outcome if handled by an experienced professional.

Overall, and again this is only my perspective, the benefit of shining (to me) is no single customer can get into you for a material amount of cash and before they dissapear, the two or three cleans you do before they go skint or avoid payment i would put down to experience.

Having said that all the best in getting paid out.
