Hi all,

I have been using diy harris poles for a while now and have been through a few due to the fact that the top section collapses after a couple of months - it seems a shame just to throw them away - before I start chopping up old xtel poles to try and use the clamps from them to replace the twist grip on the harris pole, has anyone else found a better solution??

why not get a carbon fibre modular pole like unger and butcher that to make spares for your harris pole?

If you mean the clamp isn't gripping - there's a fix you can do with a strip cut from a drinks bottle

when you buy one undo clamp and a couple wraps of insulation tape round
the clamp stops the clamp from wearing i have been using same harris since
jan with no probs,just check clamp occasionally and just apply tape when needed

Just buy another couple of Harris poles; they're like £15 each.  Don't buy one of them, buy four of them.

Chuck the old ones to the guys who come round looking for scrap metal.

Can you explain please?

There were some old posts, a year or two ago, where someone recommended cutting a 1" strip of plastic drinks bottle and wrapping that around the pole underneath where the clamp grips. 
I've not tried it as the harris poles I've got, hardly get used - and if they started slipping I'd probably replace at £15!!

why not just buy a CLX or something similar, rather than keep patching and replacing parts.

stop being a ruddy cheapskate and buy yourself a decent pole!!25ft SLX is A FANTASTIC POLE!!if you look after it it could last you 4 years.how many harris poles will you go through in that time.ok they are cheap but a decent pole is a must IMO if your poling most days.

Harris poles rule. Why pay 200+ for a short pole under 18 ft when u can get a harris for 15 quid with no real noticable weight difference. I have the smax for my big jobs but seriously you can not go wrong with a harris for an everyday pole. Im on 2nd year using same 1 and all i did was ptfe the clamps a year ago and still its holding out strong.

The Harris pole is still the best pole on the market as it was the for runner to all the poles that came after and at 15 quid is absolute true value. We all have one or had one, but due to being snobs we forget them. They should solute them as they were fantastic.

I've got two Harris Poles, ones got one of those unger fixi clamps with two scouring sponges in - idea for stubbon marks.
The other one has my skinny long bristled flocked brush - that I use for cleaning up the back of guttering.  I also remove this brush and fit a mirror for surveying gutters when quoting

If I did happen to break a WFP I could use one of these as a back up.

ive got 5 in my garage ready for use...but it doesnt hurt to look after your
equipment no matter how little it costs.

they will stop selling them at some point and i will have to pay ten times
for something that does the same job.

i intend to delay the inevitable for as long as possible

I use 2 angle adaptor in tandem and a super lite duel medium trim Gardeners brush.

Take clamp appart and cut off about 5mm from inner cone
