Hi all,

I have posted a few times on here and i am seeking some advice as i have my first wool mix carpet to clean....

The carpet is in very good condition with just the odd make-up stain. The carpet is beige in colour with the odd orange/light brown fleck and its a low-pile, wool-mix twist.

As normal i will pre-vac carpets with the trusty sebo! To clean the carpet i will use a porty Nilfisk hot water extraction machine which has a set tempreture of 90 deg... Is this "temp" safe for wool mix?? Obviously i am concerned of shrinkage!

I also hear that over-wetting wool carpets can cause shrinkage when drying out!! Any claification on this will be appreciated. Although instinct tells me to run a dry wand over a couple of extra times to be safe!

I will use Prochem liquid wool safe in the Nilfisk porty to avoid any browning problems or chem damage to fibres.

Again this carpet is very clean anyway and it`s fitted in a £400,000 house which is prestine condition......

This is also resulting in 4hr weekly domestic clean.... after the carpets have been cleaned.
Needless to say, i`m out to impress!

I hope you can offer a little advice on the above as we are more used to grubby end of tenancy cleans and whipping out the Prochem double clean and power burst..... Which i feel may dissolve this carpet

pureclean from prochem or some other microsplitter if it anit too dirty. work it in with a pile brush, let dwell for 15minutes then extract. 90 degrees wont warm it.

Dont forget the foil tabs under the furniture!!!!!!!!!!

Dare I suggest a training course? as it sounds like you are new to this sort of thing. Or why not give the clean to a seasoned pro who has better machinary and will do a better job? You could pick some tips off him too.

You client will be impressed and you will retain them. Then when you become more experienced you can clean them next time. Why risk this if it goes wrong through lack of apparent knowledge?

Carpet dawg, thank you for the run down on the basics. I have a good supply of liquid wool safe and fib `n fab rinse..... Oh and somemore furniture protectors are on the way.... I anticipated i would need them
The carpets are pristine condition so no big gun pre-treatment is needed.
However i will order some pure clean now for future CC`s.

I really repect you, your profession and i understand that some "seasoned pro`s" may get annoyed at us Novice carpet cleaners for not taking the time in completing courses..... After all....... they are there for a reason.

I MUST STRESS..... that i cannot wait for the day i pack-up me sarnies and head off to my first CC course , however 3 young boys and a disabled partner (through pregnancy) are taking my time/dedication and squeezing in normal end of tenancy jobs & domestic cleaning somewhere is a nightmare.

Believe me, i`m banging my head against the wall everynight...... The enthusiasm/work/money is there and i really want the training..... I just do not have one minute of time to spare.....YET!

Having said all that my partner (clair) is expected to get better in the up and coming months, which "hopefully" will time right for when our youngest starts school this september. We can then look for more staff and training.

Even this carpet cleaning job fell out of nowhere. Last week-end I completed a 3bed full End Of Tenancy (domestic clean) including a full house carpet clean for a couple moving house (a clause in the contract) and i ended up at her new 6bed house because she was very happy with my work/service and attitude  

I feel confident going into this job as it is a spotless carpet, only really "requires a freshen-up" (as requested) and IMO a great one for experience. On a positive side at least i maybe able to answer a few questions on the training course and be one of few to have touched wool carpet.

I must end now, but thanks a million for the advice. Thats why we keep coming back to this forum!!

my approach to cleaning wool mix  or 100% wool is the same as any other carpet, wool gets no special treatment or more drying strokes than any other carpet type.

i never understand why anyone sees wool as a problem, its especailly evident in the USA where wool is seen as some sort of  nightmare but i can think of many other carpets that are more problematic .

it only when you come to stains that the type of fibre becomes .

just clean it and don't worry

I for once am not worried.... about cleaning the carpet, just a little careful or cautious.

Anyway the jobs paid (will do) for my new 10 metre and 5 metre hose....... Should be here Monday!! Job ON!

have to agree mike.Sometimes if on tmf from the states and reading treads about cleaning wool, makes me laugh.One guy cleaning carpets ten years and said he has never cleaned wool.mad
