got to clean an awkward flat
« on: June 03, 2012, 06:46:31 pm »
I got a flat to clean above a hairdressers on a busy main road. Theirs 2 windows with 1 above another. And to get to the 1 above its quiet hard to do without a gooseneck. To get a good reach i will have to stand on the road and its a really busy main road. So am planning on doing the job at 5AM when its a bit quiet. What do you think

What will the occupants of the flat say if you bang a brush on their window at 5am?

If its fine by them then go for it.

What are you gonna Do in the winter when it's freezing cold and dark out at that time of the morning?
Unless its well lit and the occupants don't mind, then fine
Otherwise have a bit of a rethink - or at least think ahead

Can you do it from inside? Or off a ladder?

I have a second angle adaptor fitted (2 angle adaptors joined together) and I get to the bottom of 4 x 2nd floor (ground, 1st and 2nd floor) office windows in an old Victorian house (deep window cills) by standing just off the pavement in the car parking section. I have an ali goose neck and used it once. I couldn't use it everyday as it was too heavy and it took too much time to put on and remove.

I also don't know what your double parking rules are or how tightly they are enforced, but up here we often have lorries double parked in the High Streets off-loading stock. I have on occassion done the same, using the van as a 'lane block'. If you can get away with it, park facing the traffic past the flat, have hazard lights flashing and work out the back. It doesn't seem to annoy drivers as much when they see the front of a vehicle and affords you more protection. A couple of windows won't take long. Also ensure you use your 'trailing hoses' warning signs clearly visible.
