Helpfull tricks and tips for the new guys
« on: May 30, 2012, 12:00:44 pm »
Over the last few months I have noticed that allot of the new guys are having problems with some of the simple maintenance tasks. As allot of you know to be a carpet cleaner you come across problems with equipment or simple little problems that just turn out to be a nightmare as when you did your training it did not cover things like blocked jets, broken fittings, replacing parts etc. These simple little things can make all the difference.

My tip of the day.

Carry a pin or small needle poked in the sun visor for when a jet gets a bit of debris in it or blocked. Always remember to unscrew the jet and push the pin in from the back of the jet so you do not damage the angle of the spray pattern.

Please feel free to add you tips and tricks to help carpet cleaners with an already difficult job.

Make sure you have filters on your jets and check
them regularly.
If you have a Drymaster tool always make sure you
it off before you turn off the machine.
Also if your using it first job of the day make sure it's
in the off position before turning on machine and adjusting
the pressure before you turn on the vacs.   ??? ???
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

a stop tap at the end of your solution line so you don't have to switch off the machine when swopping tools.

At the end of the day or job, empty the waste tank and suck the rest of the clean water from the solution tank to wash the crud out of the waste tank.
While emptying the wash water run the vacs with the lid open to dry the vac units.
While sucking the clean water through let plenty of air in as well, this will help keep the insides of the vac hose clean.
Never let the machine drop from the van. I have replaced two 7.2" units on the same machine when the owner just yanked the machine from the van and let it drop. Cost him £400.

fix an inline filter on the end off your solution line then every tool use use benefits from it,

fuse wire is the best thing to clean jets, if you buy a pack it has 3amp, 5 amp & 13amp these will fit into 01 015 02 & 03 jets it is also very maluble (soft) so will not distort the jet oriface

Get a remote control so you can switch off from the wand and change tools etc and take those phone calls as they come in so you do not miss out on any jobs. :)  Since i got one have not missed the trips up and down stairs to switch machine off ;D

Keep some Tippex, super glue and a spare pair of under pants on the van in case of accidents.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Carry spare female and male QDs plus PTFE tape on the van.

Needed to put new female QD on the TM yesterday, was glad I carry new ones spare.

Never get blocked jets, as above because I have inline filters on all tools.
