drugs and workers
« on: May 23, 2012, 06:36:10 pm »
last year i had onboard a dope smoker and he was a lovely lad but as slow as fook the day after smoking dope. i was scared he might fall off a ladder so he had to go

more recently one of my current partime lads has been working normally one day, then slow as fook the next .  when i mean slow i mean SLOOOOW , as in doing 1 window when normally he would do 4  .

he told one of the others over each weekend hes been on 4day drink binges + coke .

What would you do with him ? he is 18 .  i know its pretty normal to get wasted at weekends and he is at college on the other days  but has failed all the exams there too

I've been down this road with lad's in the past, @ 18 i fear he'll only want to carry on partying and your his means to be able to do it.

In my experience, late 20's on wards with commitments is what you need!

Rob.
Life used to be full of up's and downs....now i hardly ever get up a ladder :) .

Have a word with him and say that you have noticed him work considerably slower after the weekend, and unless you cut it out, i will have no option but to let you go.

Get him to save some of his coke for Monday mornings.........he'll fly through the workload.

Should of stuck with the stoner!!

As already said you want someone in late twentys with commitments.

If i was looking for an employee i would never take on a young lad, they all on the drugs these days ;D

how do you have a 4 day binge over a 2 day weekend ???  unless he's been having time off
either way if he cant handle a good weekend & still work at 18 he's obviously a tart & needs sacking

what he does in his own time is his business, but if it affects your work it is yours, I would lay down the line, and say to him if hes crosses it he will be unemployed, simples  ;)

I often used to cram a four day binge into a two day weekend  :D. Drink faster and sleep less; easy 8).
I'd be wondering how he's funding it. Four day binges on the drink and nose candy would be very costly. Especially seeing as he's only part time.

Dump and replace with two
Joking aside-its not a good reflection on your business that you have grown on your own merits-customer complaints are not good if its his work affecting the results.Put personal feelings aside, and do whats right for you(and you know what I mean by that)

nothing that couldn't be resolved over a chat and a big spliff in the back of the van? then you could both walk to the shops to buy some jelly whilst laughing...

later great fun could be had trying to untangle some pole hose whilst out of your tree ...

try it it will be a good bonding session  ;D

i pick him up from his door !

im trying hard to be a decent boss, the lads had a tough life and never seen his own dad, etc   but i cant be a mug.
he lost the pole when working with another of my lads as a 2 man team but he cant  even remember where he was using it / but my other worker did see him using it all day . i wasted time in the search for it but no luck

back in the day(i was 18 once u know!)i used to regularly get hammered on the weed while at work(landscape gardening)and was popping pills like smarties on weekends and dropping LSD.

some saturday mornings id had  no sleep as id been clubbing all night and taking vast quantities of anything i could get my hands on!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

i still made it into work.some saturdays id still be tripping off the acid!!

i always worked very hard when i worked for other people despite the mad partying.

the youth of today are lazy, feckless and dont wanna work hard.also a lot cant handle their drugs!(its a sweeping generalisation)but im allowed to say it as im a sometimes grumpy 40 yr old with fading youth!! :'( :'( ;D ;D

at the time i was working 55 hours a week, spliff every day, drinking brandy straight outa the bottle and hammering the speed, coke,E s at weekends.i worked harder than anybody else that worked there!! ;) ;D ;D ;D

i would never have anybody working with me who was on drink/drugs unless they worked the way i worked back in the late eighties! 8) 8)
price higher/work harder!
