Battery sprayer
« on: May 19, 2012, 12:31:33 pm »
Been looking at this - http://www.windowcleaningwarehouse.co.uk/shop/backpacks/wcw-backpack-v3-flow-control.html

Heard good things about it - lasts all week on one charge and gives good pressure for presprays, can also use long hose on it and attach quick couplers for attaching brass lance and upholstery tool

i just worry as i use hot presprays and powdered microsplitters a lot of the time that the pump wont last - any one else tried one and if so hows it going?

I have one and it's great but I wouldn't think powdered solutions would be too kind on the pump.

I've had one of these ages and use hot water with SPM, Powerburst etc and had no probs. I mix it in a bucket first.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

how much do you have to tinker with it when you get it? ie - do you have to put new hosing on or can you just fit a quick coupler on the end with a jubilee clip to attach brass lances?

how good are the fittings on it - any issues with leaks or hoses breaking off etc?

any chance you could upload a piccy of yours set up?   ::)

Used mine out of the box but use for weed killer. Advised WCW prior to purchase what I'd be using for.

When you order just tell WCW that you intend to use for spraying pre-spray and they'll adapt before sending.

For spraying pre-spray I still favour Ikon which I buy from Solo Sprayers: -

I personally think the IK9 sprayers are overpriced and low quality. The centre shaft is way too flimsy and I bent one just by pumping in the normal way. I have found alternative pump ups that are cheaper and stronger - lasting much longer.

As for the sprayer from WCW, they are great. Had ours for probably a year and a half, and run chems through with no probs yet.

Being a skinflint I bought 2 sprayers from B&Q for £12 each. They are plain plastic with no lettering on. One is 5 lt and the other is 3.
They have a 2" dia pump and get to full pressure in 15-20 pumps. The only downside is adapting the pipework to take a standard lance which was not that difficult. Both sprayers have been in use now for 4 1/2 years with no problems.

Powders are not as problem for any pump if mixed correctly. I have been in the business for 20 odd years and because of the volume we do have always used powdered presprays. The manufacturers realise that volume customers need to use powders for the convenience of storage and as such most of the best and effective chemicals are supplied in powder form. The correct mixing vessels to decant etc are quite inexpensive and worth the investment.
If you are using liquids only because of the fright of what powders can do with your equipment then you are missing out.
It is no hassle to rinse through with white vinegar periodically.
As for the battery sprayer from the window cleaners warehouse it is a brilliant bit of kit, you need to take care refilling it as it is possible to flood the battery compartment with spills. I have had a few problems over time but window cleaners warehouse have always repaired f.o.c.. I use mine in preference to an inline sprayer with a truckmount as it reduces my chemical usage considerably.
I use the lance supplied but have a similar lance on a matibo sprayer which I can simply change the rod and tip for spraying upholstery. For the cost it is a brilliant piece of kit that will save you a lot of time and is also a proffessional looking item. Ik9 sprayer is not that good a bit of kit and there is far better on the market. I carry about 12 different dedicated sprayers 5 ltr or above so have had a little experience of sprayers.

Totally agree with Peter regard powder unless there's a product that you prefer that only comes in liquid form.

great sprayers but just make sure you silicone the joint where the base meets the tank other wise you will go through lots of spares due to shorts

I have just put a bead of black electrical tape around mine and it does the job and is no hassle to remove if you need to get inside.
