a strange week
« on: May 18, 2012, 01:41:56 pm »
Weekend has started early for Team Phoenix after a topsy-turvy week

Heavy rain and strong winds tuesday meant an early bath
Wednesday-Van door lock broke(rear door) quoted 350 + vat to inspect and replace by local nissan garage which led to me having a stand up row with the after service manager in front of a carshowroom full of people!! 8) .Told them they were rip off merchants and got £30 off intial inspection fee and then took van to a mates garage who can do it for less than half original quote :)
Finally got onto two driveway sealant jobs after 5 weeks waiting for a break in the constant rain yesterday- happy customers and all paid
The boys have then stormed the remaining and outstanding work and are now back, vans filled and ready to go for monday and have all got a nice longish weekend
Fingers crossed on a big quote tomorrow for next week
Banking done, worksheets printed and all records up to date by having office time today

Hope you all had a good week :)
Regards
Roy

Roy, I can only dream of being up straight with work. Then again I have been trying for over 30 years so no change there.

Trouble is I cannot say no to new work, never have, but just when you think there is no way I can do any more, someone pops up and away you go.

While I appreciate that the garages can't do an initial fault identification for nothing due to labour costs and people then taking it elsewhere to be done cheaper, but if they relooked at their mode of operation and costs, then maybe customers wouldn't feel the need to take it elsewhere.

I had a camshaft sensor go on my Suzuki Carry van. £30.00 to identify the fault - it took 10 minutes to get the van in and out of the workshop - then as they didn't have the part in stock I took it back to be fitted a week later. Another £60.00 plus £30.00 for the part. The sensor is easy to get to and its a matter of unclipping a wire plug, removing and replacing the sensor and recoupling the wire. It took the mechanic another 10 minutes, but this time they left the van in the workshop bay for another hour whilst I was waiting around in the reception for it.

Obviously I needed their computer to identify the fault but the second charge was criminal. Has the van been back? No. Will it ever go back to them? No, not if I can help it. But I smile everytime they send me a workshop service mailer telling me how competitively priced their service is.
I love their mailers because its costing them everytime to send it. I've also got onto their new car mailing shot as well which increases my pleasure even more.

My exhaust has snapped at the 1st catalytic converter on van a few places quoted the part at over 200 +vat , went to local exhaust place and they will fit one for £140 all in

Crazy what some garages try and get away with

But i suppose its the same with window cleaners :) some are cheaper than others

I have a customer who always runs Jags, an X-Type and and XJ. The X-type is a diesel and a main dealer charged him £147 for an oil + filter change claiming expensive, fully synthetic oil.

Previously they also owned a MK3 Mondeo Diesel - essentially the same car underneath as the X-type, same engine, same oil.

Ford main dealer charged them £45 for an oil + filter change.

Hmmm......

Can't be bad, The Mk3 onward with either the 2.0 or 2.2 diesel are very good. I've gone down the French route with the same engines for the same reasons as you. We picked up a 136bhp 2.2 hdi C5 for £300 which is doing very well so far.
